PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM [mfg afar? I Filed Feb. 18. 1951 vmc , graphic print attached thereto.
Patented Sept. 13, 1932 {UNITED STATES DAVID J. .ABRAI-IAMS, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM Application filed February 18, 1931. serialNo. 51'6,-633.
My invention consists of a novel mounting for photographs and other pictures, and the object of the invention is to provide means for mounting prints back to back and utilizing the back of one to display the title to the other.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention, Fig. 1 is a plan view of one side of a sheet of material with a photo- Fig. 2 is a plan view of the opposite side of the sheet with another photographic print attached. Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse vertical section through the line mm of Fig 1, looking in f the direction of the arrow.
Similar numerals indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, iis a sheet of material of convenient size for a binder or album, adapted to contain a plurality of such sheets. On each side of the surface of the sheet t there are shown three rectan ul'ar spaces described on the side shown in ig. 1 as'5, 5 and 5 respectively, and on the other side as 6, 6 and 6 respectively, said spaces being hereinafter referred to as'subdivisions. The subdivisions are defined by the border lines 7 on Figs. 1 and 2. In some instances it may be desirable to mount only one print upon each side of the. sheet, occupying substantially the entire surface of the sheet. The invention may be embodied in any size of sheet 4: that the user may prefer, and the subdivisions should be of a size to suit the print to be used thereon. Within each subdivision and near one end thereof, is an elongated opening 8, and slightly beyond the other end of each subdivision is a similar elongated opening 8. The two elongated openings relatin to a iven subdivision are substantiall parallel to each other, and are spaced apart about the same distance as the length of the 501 operator to assemble it with other like sheets PATENT OFFICE.
; HOWARD E. GILLESLPIE, F MALDEN', MASSACHUSETTS, nssreivon or onn-HAnr To in a binder of'ordinary construction .for loose leaves.
i In Fig. 1 is shown a photographic print 10, secured to subdivision and extending over and covering the elongated opening 8 within that subdivision, leaving the elongated opening .8 below subdivision .5 uncovered.
' In Fig. 2 is shown a print 11, secured 'to subdivision 6 directly back of the print 10, extending over and covering the elongated opening '8 within that subdivision, {and'leaw ing the opening 8 above the subdivision-6 un covered. Thus upon the back of the print 10; can be displayed, through the opening 8v above the print 11, the title to the print 11, and upon the back of print 11' can bedisplayed thetitle to print 10 through the opening 8 below the print 10. Y
The prints may be secured to. the sheet by different means. but 'I' prefer to have said subdivisions of the sheet gummed in any manner and to any extent the maker may desire, which the operator may moisten by a wet' sponge or cloth and then press the print thereon.
The print to be attached to subdivision 5.
is designed to cover the opening 8 within that v subdivision, and to display the title to the picture attached to subdivision 6' through the opening 8 shown'within subdivision 5 in Fig. 1, and below the subdivision 6 in Fig. 2. The print attached to subdivision 6* is designed to display the title to the print attached to subdivision 5 throughthe opening within subdivision GPand above the subdivision 5*. A corresponding arrangement of the titles will occur in the" relations between the prints attached to subdivision 5" and 6* respectively.
Each sheet 4, as illustrated in the drawing, is adapted to receive six photographic: prints with the name of each plainly displayed adjacent to it. 7 Larger sheets can, of course, be
made to display more prints in the same man- 12, 12, are guide marks for conveniently locating the corners of the print.
It is obvious that the sheet may beused not only for photographic prints, but for collecting a variety of souvenirs, such as postcards, postmarks, postage stamps and prised within my invention.
These sheets 4 being made preferably of thin paper, are light and convenient for photographers, and especially amateurs, to carry about, and provide convenient means for assembling a large number of prints in I a small" compass, and enabling the user promptlyv to entitle each print with its appropriate name. v 7 1 When a number of these sheets with prints mounted and entitled are collected, the user may then assemble them in a suitable looseleafed album. and preserve themfor ready reference. V r p What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;
1. VA sheet of material havingtwo openings therein, combined with a photographic print secured to said sheet between said openings and covering one of them, and a photographic print secured to the opposite side of said sheet between said openings and covering the opposite opening.
-,2. A sheet of material having two'elongated openings" therein, substantially parallel to :each other, combined with a 1 photo graphic printsecured to said sheet between said openings and covering one of them, and a photographic print secured to the other side of said sheet between said openings and covering the opposite opening.
3. A sheet of material having two elongated openings therein, substantially parallel to each other, combined with a photographic print secured to said sheet between said openings and covering one of them, and a photo graphic print secured to the other side iof said sheet between'said' openings and covering the opposite opening, said first photographic print having inscribed th ere-on the 7 title to the subject of the other, said title be;
ing displayed through one of said openings.
4. A sheet of material having two elongate ed openings therein, substantially parallel to each other, coinbined with a photographic 7 print secured to said sheet between said open.-

ings and covering one of them, and a photo graphic print secured to the other side of said sheet'between said openings and eover= ing the opposite opening, each ofsaid photo 7 graphic prints having inscribed thereon the title to the subject of the other, said title being displayed through one of said openings, whereby each print and its title are presented adjacent to each other.
i 5. 'A sheet of material having a subdivision described on each side'thereof, each subdiviQ sion having an opening therein near oneend I thereof, and another opening located beyond.
the opposite end of said subdivision, combinedwith a photographicprint secured to 7 one of said subdivisions between said openings'and covering one of the same.
6. A sheet of material having a subdivision I first-named photographic print and covering 'ings and covering one of the same, anda subdivisions described on the opposite side of described on each side thereof, each subdivision having an'opening therein near one end" thereof, and another opening located beyond the opposite endof said subdivision, combined with a photographic print secured to one of said subdivisions between said openings and covering one of the same, and a photographic print secured within the subdivision located immediately back of said the other of said openings;
I 7. A sheet of material having a subdivision describedfon each side thereof, each subdivision havingan opening therein near one end thereof, and another opening located beyond the opposite end of said subdivision, combined with a photographic print secured to one of said subdivisions between said openphotographic'print secured within the subdi-' Vision located immediately back of said firstnamed photographic print and covering the other of'said openings, the back of each photographic print bearing thetitle of the other, and displayed through one of said openings. 8. A sheet of material having described on each side thereof a plurality of subdivisions, located in staggered relation toeach other, each' subdivision having an opening therein near one end thereof, and anotheropening located'beyond'the opposite end thereof, the
opening within each subdivision coinciding with an openinglocated outside of one of the the sheet p Y 9. A bookcontaining a'plurality of sheets of material, each sheet having two openings therein, combined with a pl'iotographic print secured to said sheet between said openings graphic print secured to the other side'of said sheet between saidopenings and covering the opposite opening,each print having the title-- to the other inscribed thereon and displayed through one'ofsaid openings. 7 7
