Description

Sept. 13, 1932. P. A. HENTSCHEL DEFLECTOR FOR GAS STOVES Filed Aug. 25. 1951 IA. Jfni'schel, a Ai'l'ys.
PAUL A. nnnrsonnn, or BALTIMORE, MARYLAnn, Assrenon ToyEivTFLEG'rOR com- 1 PANY, INCORPORATED; on BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, A CORPORATION or MARY.-
Patented Sept. 13, 19 32 iTED STATE LAND nnrnncron FOR GAS s'rovEs Applicatiorifiled August 25, 1931. Serial no. 559,293.
The invention relates to deflectors for use on gas stoves for deflecting fumes so that they will not impinge against the wall of the kitchen, or directly against the" top of the stove. The invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 isa front View. Fig. 2 is a vertical section from front to rear. r r
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view from side to side of the appliance.
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan View.
In this drawing 1 is the chimney to be mounted on the collar of the stove, said chim- 1 ney being of elongated cross sectional form with rounded ends. The rear wall of the chimney extends above the level of the top edge of the front wall, and to this rear wall extension a hood is secured composed of a rear wall substantially in the vertical plane of the rear wall of the chimney, said walls being secured together by rivets, or other 7 wall portions of the chimney. By this construction the only outlet for the fumes emanating from the gas stove is at the front of the h'ood,and it will be noticed that the hood is of elongated form inrespect to the long dimension of the chimney, so that said hood reaches considerably beyond the curved end walls of said chimney.
By reason of the flaring construction of the hood, that is, increasing in volumetric capacity towards the front, a free discharge of the fumes from the gas stove is provided for not only directly in line with the chimney,
but out beyond the chimney at both sides thereof, and this discharge takes place in a forward direction only so that the fumes are directed away from the walls of the'kitchen, and are not directed downwardly towards the top of'the stove.
There is a grille plate 5 extending over the Open fmnt Ofthe hood, Said grille platepreferably being formed of cast metahthough the invention is not limitedin this respect. The grille is made up of bar portions connecting with each other, and other bar portions which extend into the spaces, and have free terminal end portions. This grille plate is secured to the hood by ears 6 on'the hood bent into engagement'with the end edgesot I i the grille plate. The grille plate is also secured to the front rivet at 7.
I claim:
'1. A deflector forithe fumesofgasstoves comprising a chimney portionto fit the collar Wall of the chimney by a of the gas stove, a hood attachedtosaid chim- V ney, said hood being of elongated form and reachlng beyond the opposite sides of the chimney portion, said hood being made up of a top, back and end walls, together with. bottom wall portions between the saidend walls and the adjacent sides of the chimney, o
the-discharge opening from said hood being only at the front thereof, substantially} in the samev vertical plane with a front wall portion of the chimney, the rear wall of the hood being substantially in the same vertical plane with a rear ney;
2. A deflector according to claim 1 in which the top wall of the hood extends upwardly and forwardly at an. inclination.
wall portion of the chim- 3.A deflector according toclaim 1 in which the end walls of the hood incline out- 1 wardly from rear to front 4. A deflector according to claim 1 in which the top and bottom walls of the hood wall attached to the upward. extension of the pipe rear wall and substantially in the same vertical plane'therewith, said hood havdiverge forwardly and the end walldiverges than the front wall, a hood having a back ing top and bottom walls diverging forwardp? 10 fili ly inrespect to each other, and ends Walls also diverging forwardly in respect to each other, the bottom Wall extending from the end Walls to the curved ends of the pipe and a rille at the front opening of the hood, at-
tached-Vt'o saidhood and to the front wall of the pipe, substantially-as described.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
