WILLIAM H. WILSON, OF WESTFIELD, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS HIS RIGHT TO JAMES N. STEVENS AND ROLLIN D. ROOKWELL.
IMPROVEMENT IN SECTIONAL STEAM-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Lettere Patent No. 187,692,1dated February 20, 1877; application filed September 5, 1876.
To all whom it they concern:
Be it knownthat I, WM. H. WILSON, ot' Westfield, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-v Boilers, of which the following is a specifica tion:
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a steam boiler or generator, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in whicht Figure l is a vertical section of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line a: Fig. 1. f
A represents the base of my boiler, made in annular form, with a circular central orice, under which is the sliding grate B, with ashbox or ashpit C underneath.
The body of the boiler isl composed of a series of segmental sections, D D, each having a horizontal segment, E, at the top, which latter, when the boiler is put up, come together in such a manner as to form a circular center .opening in the top of the boiler, through which the magazine G is inserted. From the inner side of each sebtion D extend a series of horizontal pipes, a a, radially inward to, or nearly to, the magazine. The ends of these pipes are plugged or otherwise closed.
The sections D Vare connected, by right-and i left-hand nipples b, with the base A at the bottom, and connected together at the top by return-bends d, making the base, pipes, and. sections all connected for water and. steam space, and steam can be taken from any one section, or from all, as may be desired. y
By this construction I obtain a boiler of large heating-surface in small compass. It is portable, simple in construction, and can be manufactured at comparatively small cost. The magazine G is removable in order to clean the pipes and tire-box in the boiler.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a steam-boiler, the combination of the annular base A and the segmental sections D,-constructed so as to receive the removable magazine G, and-connected together at the top and to the base at the bottom, substantially as herein set forth.
2 The combination of the annular'base A with the sections D E, with pipes a, nipples b, and return-bends d, and the removable magazine G, all substantially as and for theV purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WM. H. WILSON.
