This invention relates to improvements in Kelly printing presses, particularly in the arrangement of the form rollers used in such presses, and it is theprincipal object of our invention to provide means on printing presses allowing a lifting and holding of the printing or form rollers out of contact with the type form carried by the reciprocating bed of the press while the press is not work Tt is well known that during the idleness of the printing presses while the printing or form rollers remain idle, they are covered or bedaubed with the ink and become smeary requiring arduous cleaning before they can be used again.
It is the object of our invention to overcome this disadvantage and to provide means for constantly keeping the rollers clean for instantaneous use by elevating the same above the type form when not in use.
Another object of our invention is the provision of a movable bar provided with pins traveling in slots of a stationary bar, and supporting the heads carrying the end spindles of the rollers, while a weighted arm controls the movements of the movable bar.
Still another object of our invention is the provision of a cam operated movable bar carrying the spindle supporting heads adapted to be operated by a weighted arm controlling the movements of the movable bar.
A further object of our invention is the provision of a movable bar carrying a pin traveling in an inclined elongated slot of a stationary bar and engaged by an operating lever controlled by a weighted arm to lower and elevate the movable bar for lowering and elevating the form rollers of the Kelly printing press.
A still further object of our invention is the provision of a mechanism for raising and lowering the form rollers of printing presses out of contact with the type form by the operation of an arm standing under the control of an eccentrically arranged abutment or screw on a weighted arm adapted to be swung about its pivot point.
These and other objects of our invention 7 we claim as new and desire to secure by Letwill become more fully known as the descrip- 7 tion thereof proceeds and will then be specifically defined in the appended claims.

As illustrated, the stationary bar 47 has formed therein one inclined elongated slot 48, in which travels a pin 49 of the movable bar 50.
To this pin is secured one end of an operating bar 51, the other end of which is secured to arm 29, as indicated at 52, the lower end of arm 29 being pivotally secured, as at 58, to the press frame.
The heads 54 have the recesses 55, for the reception and guidance of the ends of the spindles 56 of the printing or form rollers 57 This form of'our invention operates as follows:
If it is desired to lower the form rollers into contact with the type form, arm 30 is thrown backwards, causing abutment 32 to allow arm 29 to turn about its pivot 53 so that operating bar 51 will displace pin to the lowest part in slot 48 and movable-bar 50 will be lowered and allow the form rollers to be lowered into contact with the type form 12.
It will be understood that we may make such changes in the construction of the details of our invention as come within the scope of the appended claims without departing from our invention.
Having thus described our invention, what ters'Patent is:
1. In a printing press, a stationary slotted bar secured to the frame of the press, a mov-' able bar parallel to said stationary bar, and in close proximity thereto, a pin on said movable bar adapted to travel in the slot of said stationary bar, a pivoted operating lever, an operating rod attached at one end to said pin and at its opposite end to said operating lever, and a means for lifting and lowering said movable bar supporting the end spindles of the printing rollers.
2. In a printing press, a stationary bar attached to the frame of the press and having an inclined slot, a movable bar, recessed heads engaged by said movablebar, end spindles of form rollers engaging the recesses in said heads, a lateral pin formed with said movable bar engaging and traveling in the slot of said stationary bar, a lever pivoted at one end to the press frame, a curved upper end on said lever, an operating rod attached at one end to said pin and at its opposite end to said lever, a Weighted arm, an eccentric abutment on said weighted arm adaptedto engage the curved end of said bar to raise said heads and printing rollers, and allow upon its disengagement the lowering thereof.
