This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in illuminated ornament for automobiles.
The primary object of the invention is to @provide an illuminated ornament for automobiles especially adapted for attachment to the cap of an automobile radiator in the form of an aeroplane motor having a screw propeller blade and radial cylinders with side windows in the cylinders spanned by differently colored screens witheach cylinder successively illuminated interiorly thereof with the light viewable through the screened windows.
A further object of the invention is to provide an illuminated ornament of the foregoing character wherein a lamp bulb within the body of the ornament is surrounded by a cylindrical rotatable shield having a side opening therein successively moved into registration with each cylinder by the screw propeller, the latter being automatically operated by air pressure therein during movement of the automobile.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

The central body portion 5 is of hollow the windows 11, the screens of the several cylinders differing in color. p
The illuminating means associated with the ornament includes a lamp socket 13 supported in a cross wall 14 at the forward end of the tail portion6 of the ornament while the lamp or bulb 15 set into the socket 13 extends into the hollow body portion 5, an electrical conductor 16 extending from a source of energy to the lamp socket 13.
The conical nose 8 of the motor body is provided with an inner central boss 17 into which a bearing pin 18 is threaded, the bearing pin extending through a roller bearing 19 set in the forward end wall 20 of the hollow body portion 5. The inner end of the pin 18 extends into the hollow body portion 5 and is anchored to the closed end wall 21 of an annular shield 22 that surrounds the lamp 15, the shield 22 being of a diameter less than the internal diameter of the hollow body portion 5 and being rotatable within the body portion by its rigid connection with the pin 18 that is fixed to the propeller nose 8. A single opening 23 is provided in the annular shield 22 and upon rotation of the shield with the nose 8, the opening 23 is successively brought into registration with the several radial cylinders.
The ornament is attached to a bracket arm 24 by fastening devices 25 and said bracket is adapted to be secured to the cap C of the automobile radiator R illustrated by dotted lines in Figures 1 and 2 by means of a screw pin and nut connection 26.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and use thereof will at once be apparent, it being noted that during the forward travel of the automobile, air pressure upon the blades 9 causes rotation of the nose 8, pin 18 and shield 22 carried by the pin. When the lamp 15 is illuminated, light rays therefrom are successively directed into the several cylinders 10 as the opening 23 in the side Wall of the shield 22 is brought into registration with the cylinder. As a differently colored screen 12 is arranged in each of the cylinders, attractive light effects are produced and tend to create the impression of firing within the cylinders and producing a more realistic effect of an aeroplane motor.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

In an illuminated ornament of the character described, a body portion, radial cylinders carried by the body, a rotatable propeller blade at the forward end of the body, illuminating means within the body, rotatable means operated by the propeller to effect successive illumination of the cylinders, each cylinder having side windows therein, and a colored screen in the cylinder spanning the windows.

In an illuminated ornament of the character described, a body portion, radial cylinders carried by the body, a rotatable propeller blade at the forward end of the body, illuminating means within the body, means operated by the propeller to effect successive illumination of the cylinders, including a shield inclosing the illuminating means and having a side opening successively registering with the cylinders, each cylinder having side windows therein, and a colored screen in the cylinder spanning the windows.
3. In an illuminated ornament of the character described, a body portion, radial cylinders carried by the body, a rotatable propeller blade at the forward end of the body, illuminating means within the body, and rotatable means operated by the propeller to effect successive illumination of the cylinders, including a shield inclosmg the illuminating means LESTER DAUGHERTY.
