lMPROVEMENTlN FLEXIBLE CAN-SPO UTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,561, dated February 20, 1877 application filed November 25, 1876.
' structcd as to serve as a stopper, and which shall avoid the necessity of having a spout upon the side of the can, as has heretofore been necessary. v
The invention consists in the combination of a flexible spout and a keeper with the top of a can, to adapt said spout to serve as a spout and as a stopper, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a can, which is made with a conical top, in the usual way. B is a spout,
the lower end of which is secured to a screwcollar, 1), by wire,a screw-band, or other suitable means. The screw-collar b is screwed upon or otherwise secured to the collar 0/ or mouth of the can A. The spout B may be made of leather, rubber, cloth, or other suitable material, and may be made tapering or straight, as may be desired.
I prefer to make the spout B of rubber, from the facility with which it may be molded into the desired form. By bending the spout B over, inserting its end beneath the keeper G, attached to the breast of the can A, and drawing it tight, the said spout serves as a stopper to prevent the contents of the can from spilling out.
This invention prevents any necessity for a spout at the side of the can, which is always in the way, and liable to be bent and broken by an accidental blow.
Having thus described my invention, 1
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of a flexible spout, B, and
a keeper, 0, with the top of a can, A, to
adapt said spout to serve as a spout and as a stopper, substantially ashereiu shown and described.
