l/Vhile the invention can be used in shoes of various types it is particularly .designed for low shoes, and in the drawing the lining is shown suitable for the'quarter of so called Blucher7 shoes for men or xford shoes for women. The quarters Q of the shoe form no part of the present invention and may be made of leather or any other suit-` able material, and as shown the 'opposite quarters are connected together at the back of the shoe by a seam indicated at S; and these quarters may be ornainented if desired.

The lining consists of seven pieces; including a central heel engaging member 4 and right and left members 2, l, 3. The right and left members 2 are attached to opposite sides of the member 4 respectively preferably by stitching. The right and left members l are attached to the outer edges of the right and left members 2 respectively as by stitching. The right and left members 3 are attached to the upper edges of the right and left members l and 2 respectively. The members 3 and 4 are preferably made out of soft durable material preferably leather such as kid; the members 2 may be made of stiffer leather or otherrsuitable material; and members 1 are `preferably made of canvas. yThe mem.-

4. Thenthe upper edges of the lining and quarters are stitched together as at S3 starting at the forepart of the quarter. When the stitcher reaches the reenforcement tab or stay, the utting knife is thrown out, then the shoe is stitched across the reenforcement tab, then the knife is again thrown in and the stitching continued on to the forepart on the other side of the quarter.

When assembled in the shoe the forward Y edges of the quarters and lining are connected to therear edges of the upper of the shoe in the usual manner, this forming no part of the present invention. The eyeletsof the shoe are usually formed invmembers 3.

The operator who stitches the lining and Vthe quarters together usually locates the position where the reenforcing tab or iiap is to bevr stitched by pinpri'cks in the leather of' the quarters'. r
