More particularly it is an object to provide a scaffold bracket in which thebracket arm and brace may beextended downwardly while the wall plate is being attached to or detached from a wall, thus considerably lessening the burden upon aworkman.
It is also an object to provide 'for the bracket arm an adjustable retainer slidalole on the arm and automatically engageable therewith to prevent planking on the arm from sliding longitudinally thereof.v
A further object is to provide a wall plate with nail apertures having lips adapted to direct the nails from the apertures when the plate is moved vertically along a wall to which it is attached. 7
Still another object is to provide for the bracket a bolt which may be extended for engagement with a block positioned upon the opposite side of studding to which the bracket is secured.

Figure 1 is an isometric view showing the bracket as it will appear when attached to a wall.
Figure 2 is a plan view showing the bracket attached to a wall.

The bracket comprises a wall plate 1,. a-
bracket arm 2, braces 3, and hanger 4. The wall plate shown is composed of an angle iron, the base 5 of which is provided with inverted T-shaped slots 6 having lips 7 upon the wider portion thereof. A hole 8 is also provided through which the bolt 9 extends.
The side 10 of the wall plate is provided with a book 11 and the arm 2 is pivoted to the side at 12.
Arm 2 is provided with a pair of apertures 13 and 14 adapted to receive the end 15 of bolt 9. The end 15 may be secured in either =may be folded for storage.

he bracket may be attached'to a-wall by driving nails through the small portions of the apertures 6 in the plate 1 and by passing the bolt9 through a block 25 as shown in Figure 2; Whenthe plate 1 issecured to a Wall,the arm 2 is extended horizontally and g5 the hanger 4- is engaged with hook 11. The braces 3 will then-'engagethe wall'and support the arm as shown. After the bracket has thus been secured to a wall, planking will be laid upon arm 2 and will be held from sliding away from the wall by the sleeve 17 or the retainer 19.. The plankingwill engage the hook 18'as shown in Figure '1 and tilt the sleeve, thus causingthe sleeve to bind with the arm 2 and hold theplanking in place. When the bracket is removed from a wall, the bolt 9 will be removed andthe. hanger 4' will be detached from hook 11 to permitthe braces '3 and arm 2 to extend downwardly from the plate 1. The arm 2 maythen be used to move the plate 1 vertically on the nails until the lips 7 cause the former to pass through larger portions of the aperturesh. The plate will then be free'and the bracket As illustrated in Figure 2 the bolt 9m y be securedito a block 26 shown in dotted line and disposed upon the inner face'of siding 27. In this case theibolt will have its end 15 disposed in aperture 13 whereas in the former .case the end 15 of the bolt will be disposed in aperture 14. i Y 1 It is preferred'to extend the arm 2 beyond the pivot 12 sufiicient to engage the end 29 with the side 10 adjacent'the base 5, thereby" re-enforcing the side against any warping effect that may be. caused by strain on the pivot12. v V
