'10 ALGEMEENE mansranm e Application filed April 23, 1931,
This invention relates to a device for varying the traverse for the production of bobbins with windings tapering conically at both ends. The device consists of a spindle or shaft and a movable and practically symmetrical heart-shaped cam arranged round it.
When winding textile material, particularly artificial silk, as is known, a traverse varying' device is employed by the aid of which the material is obtained wound in any desired predetermined form. This traverse varying device may for example operate in such a way that the ends of the wound bobbins receive a conical form. this object various traverse varying systems have already been adopted, for instance a heart-shaped cam is utilized, upon which there rests a small eccentrically arranged rollwhich makes it possible to alter the amplitude of the traverse during the winding.
The same object can be attained in a systematic manner by making the amplitude of the deflection of the traverseyarying regularly smaller. For this purpose there may be employed a heart-shaped cam which may be regarded as being composed of a large number of thin heart-shaped cams which are displaced in a regular manner in relation to the axis. Owing to the fact that a different portion of the end or narrow edge of the cam is allowed to come into action each time, a modification of the amplitude of the traverse varying can be obtained.
According to this invention the above-mentioned object can be attained. in a very simple manner by employing a traverse varying de-= vice which consists of a shaft and a movable and practically symmetrical heart-shaped cam arranged round the latter. The device according to the invention is characterized by the feature that the shaft is displaceable in the longitudinal direction and is connected with one or more elements having oblique bounding surfaces, which, when the shaft is displaced in its longitudinal direction, shift the heart-shaped cam in such a way that the difference between the longest and shortest radii of the cam, measured from the center of rotation, is thereby altered. The device according to the invention may also be so con- For the purpose of attaining the fi Serial No. 532,386, and; in the Netherlands April 25, 1930.
structed that the element or elements with inclined boundary surfaces connected with the pivot.
For the elucidation of the invention reference is made to the accompanying drawing, in whichone form of construction of the apparatus according to the invention is illustrated.
Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section thiglough a device according to the invention, an
Figure 2 a side view, looking in the direction of the arrow in Figure '1, but with the cover removed. I
In Figure 1 the shaft is denoted by 1. This is slidably arranged in a bearing sleeve 2. The bearing sleeve 2 carries a flange piece 3', and encloses elongated cavities 4. The flange piece 3 is formed with ledges 5, shown in Figure 2, to which the cover plate 6 is secured by means of bolts or otherwise. This cover plate is only shown in Fig. 1. Between ange piece 3 and the cover plate 6 and guided by the ledges 5 there is a sliding piece 7, in which small rollers 8 are secured in bearings 9 in a convenient manner. These rollers are according to the present invention adjustable by means of a screw 10.
The sliding piece 7 carries by means of bolts 11 a heart-shaped cam 12, which has a large aperture 13. The shaft 1 passes freely through a notch in the cover plate. In the notch is inserted a wedge piece 14-, which is secured by bolts or otherwise to the shaft. The rollers 8 can run along the inclined are exchangeably edges of the wedge piece 14: while the shaft 1 is being displaced.
Upon the flange piece 3 are also mounted to guiding pieces 15, by the aid of which the shaft 1, with the wedge piece 14, can set the sliding piece 7 in rotation. of the pivot may be effected during the retary movement in a manner known in itself, for instance by means of a screwthread or otherwise. Such devices are generally known, so that any further description thereof would be superfluous. Now the operation of the apparatus is regulated in such a Way that the shaft 1 is slowly displaced towards the left of Figure 1. The result is hereby ob- The displacing tained that the upper roller v8 in its turn slowly moves nearer to the axis. In this way the cam 12 will move in a downward direction from the position shown in Figure 1. Consequently the traverse varying device will in its turn gradually execute a smaller deflection, since the major axis of the heart-shaped cam, as measured from the aXis of the shaft,
" becomes smaller, and the minor axis greater.
A great advantage of the device according to the invention consists moreover in the fact that in a simple manner an alteration in the deflection of the traverse varying device can be obtained by inserting a different wedge piece. In this way it is at the same time pos-. sible also to modify the form of the bevel, since in place of an insertion piece with straight edges an insertion piece with more or less curved lateral surfaces is selected.
It is obvious that the invention renders it possible in a simple manner to obtain very accurate shaping of the windings in any desired manner, and to alter the shaping.
What I claim is r l. A traverse varying device for the production of bobbins with conical ends, comprising a heart-shaped eccentric, an opening in the said eccentric, a shaft movable in a longitudinal direction and adapted to pass through the said opening, a member having inclined surfaces secured to the shaft, a bearing sleeve for the shaft, a sliding piece fixed to the heart-shaped eccentric, a slot in said sliding piece, the said member with inclined surfaces being adapted to fit into the said slot and impart movement to the sliding piece, guides on the bearing sleeve for guiding the sliding piece, and rollers secured to the sliding piece, said rollers bearing on the member having the inclined surfaces.
2. A traverse varying device as claimed in claim 1, in which the member secured to the shaft and having the inclined surfaces is exchangeable.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification A. J. ENGEL.
