IMPROVEMENT IN BUREAU-BEDSTEADS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,632, dated January 23, 1877; applicatlon filed May 26, 1874.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER H. SMITH, of the city of Philadelphia and State of Penn sylvania, have invented a new and useful Bu view of the bedstead open and ready for use.

A is a bedstead, which, when folded, as shown at Fig. 1, presents the appearance of a bureau or case, such as is used for containing clothing. The front B of the bedstead is divided from the body 0 at the line a, and hinged to it, which forms, when open, the horizontal part D of the bed, Fig. 2. The top E is divided at the line b,- the part F forms the foot-board G, Fig. 2, of the bed. To support the foot or. end of the bed, when open, feet 0 are provided, which, when not in use, fold into the front of the bureau. The interior of the bureau or case, when closed, is occupied by the mattress H, pillow I, and the bed-clothing. Supporting-hooks d at each side keep the front closed against the body. A drawer, J, which extends across the bottom of the case is for containing the necessary bed-clothing.

I am aware that the stationary part A and the two-part top E are not new, and I therefore disclaim them.

I claim as my invention- The stationary hollow body 0, with top E, in combination with the folding front B, with the part F, forming both a foot-board of the bedstead and the continuation of the top E of the bureau, all connected, arranged, and operating as set forth.
