Description

STOP WASHER FOR WRIST WATCHES Filed Jan. 12, 1928 I N VEN TOR.

its outward movement.
Patented June 28, 1932 LOUIS SAMUEL HANSON, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO STOP WASHER FOR WRIST" WATCHES Application filed January 12, 1928.
The ob'ects of this invention are to provide suita 1e stop means for the winding stem of a watch having a three piece case, and the invention includes a washer through which the winding stem of the watch passes and which is fixedly enclosed between the case center and the sides of the back and front portions of the divided cover therefor.
The winding stem is also provided with an annularly reduced portion over which the aforesaid washer is placed, and secured by means of the crown, in this manner the stem is permitted to move longitudinally through the washer a sufficient distance to accommodate itself to the movement of the setting lever, but cannot be withdrawn from the case since the shoulder formed by the reduction in size of the extremity of the stem will limit The crown is screwed in the usual manner upon the stem having the required amount of space for the movement of the setting lever.
The invention is hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is a transverse section of the case center and ver tical edges of the front and back portions of the cover showing the winding stemand the washer thereon enclosed between the side of the casing and the vertical edges, of the cover portions; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the Watch showing the crown removed. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the stem and washer assembled thereon. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the stem and Fig. 5 is a perspective of the washer.
In these views, A is the winding stem, B is the case center, for a three piece case and C and C are the front and back cover sections respectively, D is the crown, E is the annular space in which the setting lever is inserted, and F is the space between the shoulder F on the stem and F upon the crown. In this space the washer G is inserted, and is immovably enclosedbetween the side of the case center and the sides of the back and front portions C and C of the Serial No. 246,126.
cover when closed together over the case center B.
In Fig. 1 these cuts are shown closed over the Washer, and in Fig. 2 the cover portions are shown raised.
In this manner the washer is held from movement and the stem is limited in its movements in or out of the case by means of the shoulders at F and F.
Heretofore the stem has been secured by means of the screw only, and hence if the screw becomes loosened the stem will fall out of the watch, and become lost.
With this method of construction the stem will still be held in the watch by the stop washer without other means of retention and there is no danger of its becoming lost.
Having described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is, g
1. In a three piece watch case having a case center and front and back cover portions provided with meeting edges, the combination of a winding stem and crown therefor, said stem having a reduced outer portion, providing a stop shoulder, spaced from the end thereof, and a washer mounted over said reduced portion, said washer being immovably enclosed between the side wall of said case center and the side walls of said cover portions when said cover portions are closed, said cover portions being hinged together and to said case center upon the side opposite said stem and foldable over said washer.
2. In a three piece watch case, composed of a case center and hinged cover portions having meeting side walls, a winding stem, having a reduced outer end, providing a stop shoulder, and a washer upon said reduced portion, said washer being immovably held 99 between the side walls of said three piece case, said cover portions being hinged together and to said case center upon the side opposite said stem and foldable over said washer.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
LOUIS SAMUEL HANSON.
