Description

June 28, 1932. R, FREl 1,865,095
' Al-IUSEIENT APPARATUS Filed Dec. 6. 1928 JM,- Legga VZV@ Patented June 28, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
RUDOLF FREI, F BERNECK, SWITZERLAND AMUSEMENT APPARATUS In the commonly used amusement apparatus the body designed to hold passengers, oscillates along a downwardly directed, concave curve.
This invention relates to an amusement apparatus in which the means for accommodating the passengers is movable along an upwardly curved convex curve with which object in view it is connected to a counterweight which is constructed so that it has permanently the tendency to resume its position of equilibrium by oscillating movements when it has been brought out of equilibrium.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the only figure of the accompanying drawing which shows the amusement apparatus in elevation partly in section.
The amusement apparatus is adapted to float in the water and consists of a hollow sphere 16 iioating in the water and attached by a chain 17 to an anchor block 18. The airtight sphere is subdivided by a horizontal partition 19 into two compartments, of which the lower one is lled with a medium, which is of higher specific gravity than the medium filling the upper one. The lower compartment is for instance lled with water, and the upper compartment is empty. The sphere 16 has consequently the tendency to float in the water and supports a mast 1 so that the same is standing vertical as shown when the floating body is in the equilibrium position. The mast 1 xed on the sphere 16 has steps 21 mutually displaced and spaced at dierent distances. The oscillating movement is produced by persons climbing up the mast, and it becomes of greater amplitude the higher the persons climb up.
The sphere 16 can also be of any other size and shape at all. It must be hollow and water tight. For instance, it may be shaped like an egg, cylinder, ellipsoid, etc.
1. A bathing swing, comprising in combination a hollow iloatable body loaded inside so that when brought out of equilibrium it has the tendency to return by penduling movements into the equilibrium position, a mast fixed on said floatable body and carrying means adapted to accommodate persons and to move in an upwardly convex-curve when said floatable body carries out penduling movements.
2. A bathing swing as specified in claim 1, in which said hollow floatable body is in the form of a sphere, a horizontal partition in said sphere subdividing the same into a lower compartment lled with water and into an upper empty compartment.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
RUDOLF FREI.
