Description

June 14, 1932. 5 ROGERS 1,863,283
NURS ING BOTTLE Filed March 2, 1928 Patented June 14, 1932 ALMER-IN E. ROGERS, OF ARLINGTON, CALIFORNIA NURSING BOTTLE Application filed March 2,
The present invention relates to a nursing bottle and aims to provide a novel and improved device of this character adapted to receive a nipple in a manner so that the complete device including the bottle and nipple will present a smooth unobstructed exterior surface whereby it may be more safely handled by a nursing baby.
My invention therefore contemplates the provision of a nursing bottle of practically the same diameter throughout its length so as to permit easy cleaning thereof, said bot-tle being constructed for use in combination with a particular form of nipple to not only prevent leakage at the point of attachment of the nipple to the bottle but also eliminate hard projections or exterior metal parts that might in any way injure the child using the bottle.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a device of the above indicated character, which is simple and substantial in con struction, can be manufactured economically, and will be thoroughly eflicient and practical in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bottle,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary section of the bottle showing a nipple attached thereto, and
Figure 3 is a plan of the bottle.
It is to be understood that the nursing bottle of the particular construction herein shown is used in connection with the nipple disclosed in my Patent N 0. 1,632,854, issued Serial No. 258,631.
June 21, 1927, and entitled Nursing nipple, wherein a. soft rubber compound portion or teat 10 is provided with an enlarged inner end portion 11 of semi-hard rubber having interior screw threads and a shoulder 12 at d the point where said enlarged end portion is formed integrally with the teat.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 15 designates the body of the bottle which is cylindrical in formation and of the same width throughout its length, and is provided with graduations 16 for indicating the quantity of liquid within the bottle. By having the body of the bottle 15 of practically the same diameter throughout its length, it can be seen that the bottle may be easily and conveniently cleaned and that there are no obstructions on the exterior of the bottle that might cause injury to the child using the bottle.
At the upper, open end of the bottle it is slightly reduced in size, as indicated by the numeral 17, forming an exterior shoulder 18 at the point of reduction, and above the shoulder the reduced portion or neck 17 has exterior screw threads 19 adapted to engage the threads in the enlarged end portion 11 of the nipple. The upper end of the reduced portion or neck of the bottle 17' is flat, as at 20, to receive the internal shoulder 12 of the nipple or a gasket 11a arranged between said shoulder and the flat surface 20 of the bottle. The nipple used in connection with my improved bottle is of sufiicient length so that when the flat surface 20 at the mouth of the bottle abuts against the interior shoulder 12 of the nipple, the end of the nipple will abut against the flat shoulder 18 at the point where the upper end of the bottle is reduced, thus providing a leak-proof structure and one in which the exterior of the attaching portion of the nipple is flush with the exterior of the body portion of the bottle.
From the foregoing, it can be seen that a bottle is provided which may be easily and efliciently cleaned, as well as one which will permit convenient attachment of a nipple thereto in a manner so as to provide a smooth, unobstructed surface at the point where the nipple is attached to the bottle, and there being no hard projections or metal parts there is no danger of the nursing baby being injured, as for instance in lying on the bottle or striking it against its teeth or gums.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A nursing bottle comprising a smooth body with a short neck of slightly reduced diameter forming a narrow shoulder between said neck and body and above which shoulder the neck is exteriorly threaded, the mouth of the bottle having a flat surface; together with a rubber nipple having an enlarged lower portion recessed and threaded to provide an internal shoulder and a plain lower end, and a rubber gasket interposed between the internal shoulder of the nipple and mouth of the bottle, the plain lower end of the enlarged portion of the nipple bearing against the shoulder on the bottle to cooperate with the gasket in providing a double seal and the outer surface of sa1d enlarged portion being flush with the outer surface of the bottle. c 7
