Description
May 1.0, 1932 J. KoMoRous I PLACARD DISPLAY DEVICE Filed Siept. 10, 1951 Patented May 1o, 1932 UNITED .STATES .PArENT QF"IBFICEV PANY, or CHICAGO, ILLINoIs'n conPonA'rIoN or ILLINOIS? rLAcARD nIsrLAYnnvIcE 'Application-filed September 10, 1931.
My invention relates more particularly to placard display devices for use on tables, counters, or the like,-Yfor displaying menus, for example in restaurants and drink parlors.
5 My objects generally'stated are to provide a novel, simple and inexpensive construction of device of the kind stated which shall be of very pleasing appearance, will protect the display sheet against soiling and which will 10 permit of the ready substitution of different display sheets. Y
Referring to the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a face view, in elevation, of a placard display device embodying my inven- 15 tion.
Figure 2 is an edge view thereof.
Figure 3 is a. broken view of the lower end portion of an envelope forming a portion lof the device adapted for support on the base 20 thereof and in which the display sheet is housed.

taken at the line 5-5 on Fig. 1 and viewed in the direction of the arrow; and
Figure 6, an enlarged broken sectional view taken at the line 6 on Fig. 3 and viewed in the 0 direction ofthe arrow. Y
My improved device comprises a base portion represented at 7 which maybe of any suitable material and on which the device is adapted to be supported in upright position on the table or the like. The base which, by
way of example, maybe made ofbakelite, or"
any other suitable material, is formed along its upper edge with an elongated upwardly opening recess 8 in which a trough member 9 i9 as for example of metal 1s mounted, the, mem- Figure 5 is an enlarged broken section 'serial No. 562,164.` I 2 H y y Y y y sheet or cardrepresented at15and shown asV a doubleV sheetand"` whichV maybe readily removed therefromas desiredifor the substi- Y tution of anothersuch sheet. The envelopel shown comprisestwo sheets16 of transparent 55 v Celluloid which aretlatwise :opposed and are secured together and reinforced by a framing 17 -extendingalong the vertical edges of the sheets V16 andV acrossfthetops thereof. The framing 17 is preferablyfof U-shapein 60 cross section to present about its three sides inwardly opening grooves 18 into whichthe adjacent edgesV of the` sheets'16'extend and to which they aresecured as for example by cementing lthem thereto. Y cording to the preferred illustrated embodiment of my invention, comprising the shoul 75 Y der 13 above referred to and an upwardly facing shoulder 19 on one of the she-ets 16 which is adapted, upon inserting the envelope into the groove 11 to spring-beneath the shoulder 13 and thus becomelnterlocked there- `T2580v i 'With, the same, however, being readily releasable fromthe shoulder 13 by pressing upon the sheet 16 immediately below the shoulder 19.' stated. v l Y While I have illustrated and described a particular construction embodying my invention, I do not wish to be understood asf-'-95 intending to limit it thereto as the same may be variously modilied and altered without i departing `from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure,"n by Letters Patent, is: y Y We CTI 1. A placard device comprising a base having an upwardly opening groove, a placard supported in said groove and releasable means formed of interlocking parts on said base and placard for retaining said placard in position onv said base.
2. A placard device comprising a base having an upwardly opening groove, a placard supported in said groove, a wall of `said groove presenting ashoulder, and a yielding catch onsaid'placard adapted to interlock with said shoulder when said placard is in position on said base.
3. A placard device comprising a basehavv-` ing an upwardly opening groove and a placard'supported in said groove, the lower portion of said placard being-of sprin'gy material," a wall of said groove: presenting a shoulv der and said portion of springy material being deformed to presenta catch for interlocking Withsaid shoulder.
4. placard device comprising a base having an upwardly opening groove and a placard supported in said groove, the lower portionl of 'said placard being of springy material, a'wall of said groove presenting a shoulder and said portion of springmaterial being slitted and deformed to present a shoulder adapted to interlock with the shoulder on said base when said placard is in position on said base.
