Description

P. W. PECKHAM.
ASH-SIF'IER.
Patented Dec. 19, 1876.
WziTMe/Ssw: Imveralor:
TH E GRAPHIC C0.N.Y
UNITED STATES PETER W. PEOKHAM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO SUSAN L. AND
PATENT UFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN ASH-SIFTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,568, dated December 19, 1876; application filed September 22, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER W. PEGKHAM, of the city, county, and State of New York, have made new and useful Improvements in Ash-Sifters; and I; declare the following to be a full and clear description of the same, which will enable others to make and use my improved ash-sifter.
My invention consists in constructing a peculiarly-formed handle for a perforated disk, which is made to fit a cylindrical vessel, and to which disk this handle is attached.
. The handle is constructed by bending a metallic rod into such a form that it will serve three different purposes--viz., to carry the ash-sifter, to serve as an operating-handle, and to serve as a guide, keeping the ashsifter parallel with the bottom of the cylindrical vessel, and perpendicular to the sides of the same.
In order to more fully describe my invention, I refer to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
Figure I is a top view of my improved ashsifter. Fig. II is a sectional view taken on the line w :10, Fig. I.
A is the cylindrical vessel. B is the per forated disk or ash-sifter. C is the handle, riveted at g g to the ash-sifter B, and consists of the horizontal part c, diverging parts 0, converging parts 0 and perpendicular parts 0, the extreme points i 6 extending nearly to the sides of the cylindrical vessel A, thus enabling the perforated disk to be revolved to and fro by means of the handle 0, the points i i keeping said disk in a horizontal position over the sifted ashes which fall into the bottom of the cylinder B.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim- The handle 0, consisting of the parts 0, c, 0 and c, in combination with the ash-sifter B and the cylinder A, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
This specification signed this 3d day of August, 1876.
P. W. PECKHAM.
