The thrust bearing 37 shown in Figure 7 may be entirely dispensed )with in this construction, but may be provided for action in' the event of failure of the'piston 55. The lubricant cup 40 may be associated' with this modified form of blower element by extending the lubricant conduit through the piston 53 and the chamber56 as' clearly shown in Figure 9 of the drawings.
In' both ofthe boiler cleaner constructions shown in Figures 1 and 7 the' discharge of cleaning fluid from the nozzles will result in aV reaction force which may be resolved into two components, 'one longitudinal'4 of the blower head and the Vother transverse there- Y of. The reaction component.wh'ich'acts longitudinally of the blower head'may be 'balanced'byV the piston 55 asshow'n inhFigure 7, or absorbed by the thrustjbearings 37 'as yshown in Figures-1 and 7. Referring to Figure 7, I haveillustrated the other olf-theseV components, namely, the reaction component which acts transversely off the longitudinal axis of the yblower head by reference characf terR., Since the blower head 18 hasits bearing at 24, the moment acting on the blower head by reason of the force R may be represented by R V D. The blower head illus-l trated in Figures 1 and 7 is adapted to be. balanced against this moment by reason of v"having a cleaning fluid inlet and av cleaning lfluid supply port, a blower headv having a the force of the cleaning fluid entering the spiral passages'from theport 27, this force acting longitudinally of the blower head be-y ing represented by F. The force Fis determined bythe product of the cleaning fluid pressure times the area ofthe port 27, .the pressure against areal of the Vport 27 being effective because of the fact that the passages are not extended in a straight line longitudif nally of the blowerV head, but are arranged tortuously or spirally as shown in the draw- Y ings.` Thus the blower `head is sub]ected vto a momentV by reason of the forceF, this momentbeing represented by F X L (in which `Lis the distance ofthe point V of application of force F to the center of movements) which acts in opposition to the moment R X D and to substantially counter balance this moment. Thus by properly proportioning theseaparts the blower head. may be balanced against forces acting transversely of the blower head., f

9.` A rotatable blower comprising a iplurality of nozzles adapted to discharge cleaning fluid adjacent parts of a` boiler to be cleaned and having passages respectively communieating with said nozzles for conducting cleaning fluid thereto from a source of supply, said passages being formed spirally around `the axis of rotation of the blower, said nozzles varying in angularity with respect to said axis of rotation. A blower comprising a nozzle adapted to discharge cleaning fluid adjacent parts of a boiler to be cleaned and having Ia passage communicating with the nozzle for conducting cleaning fluid thereto from a. source of supply, said passage being formedspirally and being so arranged that the-cleaning fluid as it flows through the passage creates a force which tends toA balance the reaction of the cleaning fluid escaping from said nozzle.

A boiler cleaner comprising a casing havinO a cleaning fluid inlet and a supply port, a blower head having a plurality of ports, means for rotating he blower head for successively supplying cleaning fluid from said supply port to said blower head port-s, a plurality of nozzles carried by the blower head adapted upon rotation of the blower head to supply jets of cleaning fluid successively toward predetermined parts of the boiler to be cleaned, said blower head having a plurality of spirally arranged cleaning fluid conductingv passages respectively connecting the said nozzles and blower head ports, each of said passages being so arranged that the cleaning fluid as it flows through the passage creates a. force which .tends to resist the reaction of the cleaning fluidy escaping from the nozzle of the passage and means for automatically preventing the supply of cleaning fluid to such nozzles as are not directed to a predetermined portion of theboiler.

A boiler cleaner comprising'al casing having a cleaning fluid inlet and a cleaning fluid supply port, a blower head having a plurality of ports, means for moving the blower head relative to the casing for successively supplying cleaning fluid from said supply port to said blower head ports, a plurality of nozzles communicating through tortuous passages with said blower head ports respective ly, vand means for introducin a cooling fluid to at least one of the said tortuous passages when their respective blower head ports are not in registration with said supply port;

A boiler cleaner comprising a casing having a cleaning fluid inlet and a cleaning fluid supply port, a blow-er head lhaving a plurality of ports, means for moving the blower head relative to the casing for successively supplying cleaning fluid from said supply port to said blower head ports, a plu-` rality of nozzles communicating through spiral passages with said blower head ports respectively, and means for introducing a cool-y ing fluid to at least one of the said spiral passageswhen their respective blower head ports are not in registration withl said supply port.
la. -A boiler cleaner comprising a casing having a cleaning fluid inlet and a. cleaning fluid supply port, a blower head having a plus rality of ports, means for rotating the blower head relative to the vcasing for successively supplying cleaning fluid from said supply portv to said blower head ports, a plurality of nozzles communicating through passages spirally'fo'ri around the axis of said relative rotation, and means for introducing a cooling fluid to at least one ofthe said spiral passages when their respective blower head ports'are not in registration'with said supply port.

A boiler cleaner comprising a casing having a cleaning fluid inlet and a cleaning fluid supply port, a blower head having aphirality of discharge nozzles and spirally formed cleaning fluid conducting passages for said nozzles,` and means 'for moving the blower head relative tothe casing 'for successively supplying cleaning fluid from, said supply port through said passages to said discharge nozzles, and means for introducing a` cooling fluid to atleast one of the said spiral passages when theirv respective blower head ports are not in registration with said supply port.

A boilercleaner comprising a casing having a cleaning fluid inletand a supply port, a blowerhe'ad having a plurality of ports, means forrotatingl the blower head for successively supplying cleaning fluid from said supply port to said blower head port-s, a plurality of nozzles carried bythe blower head adapted upon rotationV of the blower head to supply jets of cleaning fluid successively toward predetermined parts of the boiler to be cleaned, said blower head having a plurality of spirally arranged cleaning fluid conducting passages respectively connecting the said nozzles and blower head ports, means for automatically preventing the supply of cleaning fluid to suoli nozzles are not directed to a predetermined portion of the boiler, and means for introducing a cooling fluid to at least one'of the said spiral passages when their respective blower head ports are not in registration with said supply port.

A boiler cleaner comprisinga body portion provided with a cleaning fluid conducting passage extending longitudinally thereof, a cleaning fluid discharge nozzle communi-cating with'said 'passage and arranged to discharge a jet of` cleaning fluid transversely of said body portion,` said V.j aassage being constructed so that when the cleaning tfluid is admitte'd'theretothe saidfbody portion will be subjected to a `force substantially'balanc-l ing with said passage and arranged to dis-- ing the thrust resulting from saidV transverse discharge. 18. A boiler cleaner comprising a body portion provided witha cleaning fluid conducting passage extending longitudinally thereof,

A boiler cleaner comprising body por-l tion provided Awith a plurality of cleaning lluid conducting passages extending longitudinally thereof, cleaning fluid discharge nezzles communicating with said passages respectively and arranged to discharge jets of cleaning fluidtransverselyof said body portion, said nozzles varying in angularity relative to the axis of said body portion and said passagesbeing constructed so that when the cleaning fluid is admitted thereto, said'body portion will be subjected to a force opposing the transverse thrust incident to said: transplurality of ports, means for moving the blower head relative to the ,casing for' successively supplying cleaning iiuid from said supply port to said blower vhead ports, a plurality of nozzles communicating through passages with said blower-head ports respectively, said nozzles varying in angularity rela- V tive to the axis of the blower head and -being arranged to discharge transversely of the blower head, and said passages being constructed so that when the cleaning fluid is ad- ,initted thereto the said blower head will be u subjected to a force opposing thetransvers'e thrust, incident to said transverse discharge.

A boiler cleaner provided with a body portion having a cleaning fluid discharge nozzle arranged to discharge 'transversely of said body portion, and means for supplying cleaning fluid to'said nozzle,`said means befv ing adapted upon supply of cleaning iiuid to the nozzle to substantially balance the reaction thrusts incident to said transverse discharge. g
