Invenlor fizz/2022 .5? 278 0172272 4/ A llomey Patented Mar. 1, 1932 NEWTON E. STAMM, OEPUEIBLO, COLORADO FLUME SUPPORTING MEANS Application filed December 2, 1930.
The present invention relates to means for supporting flume sheets in a secure and watertight manner and has for its prime object to provide such means which is simple, inexpensive to manufacture and install, easy to manipulate, thoroughly eflicient and reliable in use and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
lVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides incertain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: a
Figure 1 is a fragmentary top plan View showing a pair of flume sheets supported by my improved means.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the sheets curved transversely, and
Figure 5 is a detail end view of a pair of the sheets before the ends are superimposed in overlapped relationship.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that numerals 5 denote longitudinally extended supports which are spaced a suitable distance apart. Numerals 6 denote flume sheets which are curved transversely one in one direction and the other in the other direction so that the pins 7 at the corners thereof will extend in opposite directions at the overlapping ends that is the pins of the inner sheet will extend inwardly and the pins of the outer sheet extend outwardly.
In order to support the joint at the overlapping ends of the two sheets I provide my improved means one on each side and as said means are of identical construction only one will be described in detail. Letter A denotes a substantially L-shaped casting comprising a 5 longer leg 8 and a shorter leg 9. The shorter leg 9 has an opening to receive outwardly extending pins 7 The longer leg 8 has an opening in the end thereof to receive bolt 16 which extends through the support 5. The upper so surface of the leg 8 is provided with apair Serial No. 499,569.
of humps 11 with a hollow therebetween. Letter B denotes another casting being of substantially L-shaped formation and having a relatively long leg 12 and a relatively short leg 14. The relatively short leg 14 has 85 an opening to receive the inwardly directed in p The under surface of the longer leg 12 is formedrwith a central hump 15 with a hollow 16 on each side thereof. The hollow 16 receives the humps 11 while the hump 15 rests in the hollow between the bumps 11 and a bolt 17 extends through the longer legs 8 and 12 where the hump 15 fits in the hollow of the leg 8. In this way the sheets are clamped securely together at their joints and supported in such a manner that they cannot possibly slip.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. o
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A flume construction of the class described comprising a pair of sheets having ends in H overlapping relationship and provided at 9 their corners with pins, those on the inner sheet extending inwardly and those on the outer sheet extending outwardly, a lower pair of castings having openings to receive the outwardly extending pins, means for supporting the castings, a second pair of upper castings superimposed over the first castings and having openings to receive the inwardly extending pins, said castings being of L- shaped formation to provide longer legs superimposed on each other and shorter legs having the openings to receive the pins the long leg of each of the castings of one pair having a hump thereon and each of the cast ings of the other pair having a pair of humps on its long leg for receiving the single hump, and a bolt passing throughthe longv legs of each pair 7 of superimposed vcastings and through the single hump of one leg and between the tWo humps of the other leg.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature;
NEWTON E, STAMM.
