CONTAINER FOR FROZEN FRUIT lUICE, SHERBETS, ICE CREAM, AND THE LIKE Filed June l0, 1951 Y awww/11 (v Patented Feb. 9, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ERIC C. HUGHES, F 'WEST SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE POESICLE COR- PORATION 0F THE UNITED STATES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., .A CORPORATION OF DELA- WARE CONTAINER FOR FROZEN FRUIT JUICE, SHEBIBETS, ICE CREAM, AND LIKE Application led June 10, 1931.
This invention relates to certain new and useful -improvements in container for frozen fruit juices, sherbets, ice cream andthe like.
The primary object of the invent1on 1sl to 5 provide a Acontainer for frozen fruit ]u1ce, sherbets, ice cream and like comestibles wherein the container lis struck from a single blank of sheet material to be folded into box or container formation and embodying means l0 to effect discharge or removal of the frozen material from the container.
A further object of the invention is to provide a container of the foregoing character wherein the bottom wall construction thereof includes a section extending from one end wall of the container with the outer section of the bottom wall construction designed to permit upward movement of the upper section of the bottom wall for partially or entirely removing the frozen contents from the container.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container constructed in accordance with the present inper section of the bottom wall construction` partly elevated by a cut out tab in the lower section of the bottom wall;
Serial No. 543,457.
Figure 5 is a bottom plan view of the container showing the stuck out tab; and
Figure 6 is a developed plan view of the blank from which the container is formed.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings and more particularly to Figure 6, there is illustrated a blank of sheet material of any preferred character from which the container is formed including all wall structures and creased or weakened on certain lines to permit folding of the blank into container formation, the reference numeral 10 designating a central rectangular portion constituting the'bottom of the container and at. each side of which extends a side wall 11 foldable upon the lines 12, the outer edges of the side walls 11 being up wardly arched as at 13. Each side wall 11 carries an end extension flap 14 that is foldable upon the line 15, the inner edges of the flap 14 terminating in line with the fold line 12 while the. outer edges of said fiaps terminate at the arched edges 13 of the side walls 11.
An end wall construction is carried by each end of the bottom section 10 and includes a section 16 foldable upon the line 17 and a second section 18 foldable upon the line 19. One end wall section 18 carries a Hap section 20 which occupies a position above the bottom '(5 section 10 when the blank is folded to extend partly across the bottom section 10 while the other end wall section 18 carries a relatively long bottom iapsection 21 that when the blank is folded occupies aposition co-extensive with the bottom sect-ion 10. Both sec-A tions 20 and 2l being foldable upon the lines 22. The bottom wall section l0 carries a cen-l trally located tab 23 cut from the bottom upon the lines 24 and bendable upon the weakened 35 line 25.
In folding the blank shpwn in Figures 6 into box, carton or container formation the side walls .11 are first folded upon the lines 12 and the tabs 14 upon opposite ends of the 00 y/ out departing 5 the tabs 14 and the sections 18 are then folded upon the lines 19 for engagement with the inner 'sides of the tabs 14, the end section 20 being foldable 'upon the line 22 to overlie the bottom wall section 10. The longer flap section 21 is folded upon the line 22 to overlie the section 20 and bottom wall section 10. The blank is folded into container formation as illustrated in Figures 1 to 5. The end walls are of reinforced character as will be understood from an inspection of Figures 2 and 4, each end wall comprising double plies of material while the side walls 11 are retained in locked position by the tabs' 14 carried thereby extending between the sections 16 and 18 of i 2 the end walls. When it is desired to remove the frozen commodity from the container, pressure is' exerted against the tab 23 to eifect upward movement of the relatively short and long flap sections 20 and 21 overlying the bottom wall section 10 as illustrated in Figure 4 and the frozen commodity ca n be'completely removed from the container if desired.
, While there is herein shown and described a/tlie referred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor chano'es may be made therein withfnrom the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
