In consequence, part of lo the foam was dried by the heat whenpassingthrough the fire zone, part of it was-thrown out of the tank by whirling, which is most violent at the inner walls of the tank where the heat is greatest, part of the foam dropping down upon the surface of the liquid passed through the said surface on account of the great height of fall and partly disposed, while another part rose to the surface covered with films of oil and was consumed,

The present invention that is described below solves, however, the problem of an effective extinction by foam in burning tanks.
The appliance is composed of a plurality of coaxial pipes with longitudinal slots, a
foam supplying pipe communicating from above or below with the innermost pipe. Each longitudinal slot is situated on the op posite side of the axis of the pipe to the neighboring pipe. By means of this construction the foam is protected against the action of the gases from combustion until it arrives on the surface of the burning liquid, as these gases, owing to the arrangements of the longitudinal slots, cannot penetrate directly into the innermost of the coaxial pipes, where the foam supplying pipe discharges. foam therefore flows in the innermost pipe down to the surface of the inflammable liquid without being aflected by the gases from combustion and passesthrough the longitudinal slot of the diflerent pipes and distributes itself over the surface of the liquid.

The appliance conslsts of two or more 00- axial pipes 1 and 2 which are arranged one within the other in such a manner that a space is left between them. These pipes, which are arranged vertically or on an incline in the tank, have each a longitudinal slot 3 and 4;, the longitudinal slot 3 of the pipe 1 being situated on the opposite side of the axis of the pipe tothe longitudinal slot 4 of the neighboring pipe 2. The foam is supplied to the inner pipe 1 through a foam supplying pipe 5 which can be drawn to the pipe 1 from. above or below. The feed of the foam from above comes chiefly into question when theappliance is to be installed in already existing tanks in which the foam supplying pipe mostly enters from above. r
In the form of construction illustrated in Figure 1, the foam isupplying pipe 5 is introducedv into the innermost pipe 1 from below and extends to above the highest calculated level of the inflammable liquid in the tank.
Other forms of construction are possible without departing from the scope of the invention. ,For example, each of the coaxial longitudinal, slots instead of with one only. 7 8

An appliance forsupplyingextinguishing foam inside a tank for inflammable liquid comprising a plurality of pipes arranged one within the other, a space being formed between adj acent pipes, and means for delivering foam to the innermost pipe, each of said pipes being formed with at least one longitudinal slot opening. in part above the level of the liquid for the passage of foam.

An appliance for supplying extinguishing foam inside a tank for inflammable liquid comprising pipes arranged one within the other, a space being formed between adjacent pipes, each of which has at least one longitudinal slot opening in part above the level of the liquid, and with a foam supplying pipe that communicates from above with the innermost pipe.
4. An appliance of the type described, comprising coaxial concentric pipes, each coaxial pipe being formed with a longitudinal. slot opening above the level of the liquid, the slot of any one pipe being arranged on the o 0- site side of the axis to the longitudinal slot of the neighboring pipe. 7
