IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE SPRINKLERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,225, dated November 14, 18.76 application filed May 4, 1876. j

To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID R. BEoWNLoW, of Middletown, county of Middlesex, in the State of Connecticut, have invented an Improved Portable Sprinkler, of which the following' is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying dlawings, forming a part of this specication.

My invention consists in a sprinkler or Wateringpot constructed with a connection-tube or teat for the detachable spout, contained in a walled recess arrangedin the front of the reservoir, and with a'Vertically-adjustable handle in the top of the reservoir, capable of bcing closed into the said reservoir by a hinged lid, which is secured in itsclosed position by springs carried by a hinged piece fixed upon the back of the reservoir, the said hinged piece also closing over a swinging handle arranged upon the back wall of the reservoir, whereby the sprinkler, when not in use, may be rendered conveniently portable, and where- .by, by its peculiar construction and the arrangement of its parts, it may, when not inV use, be given the general form of a book, as hereinafter set forth.

Upon the back wall a? is arranged a swinging handle, Gr, which may be folded down upon said wall, and thus form no obstruction to the closing of the piece F upon the wall a2, as described.

Now, it is evident that by means of this construction, as set forth, the sprinkler may be quickly arranged for use, the various part-s being given the positions shown in Fig. 3, while, when not in use, the sprinkler may be made conveniently portable, with no projecting parts, by being arranged with the parts in positions shown in Fig. l.

'It is also evident that, by means of the construction shown and described, the sprinkler, When not in use, may be given the general outline of the form of a book, and thus adapted to be carried in the pocket or otherwise.

What l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A watering-pot or sprinkler having the downwardly-inclined recess B, containing the teat b in the front wall of the reservoir A, and arranged Wholly Within said reservoir, whereby the spout U may be connected] with the reservoir, and, upon being disconnected, the front wall will present an exterior even surface without projections, as described.

2. In a Watering-pot or sprinkler, thc'combination of the vertically-adjustable handle D, hinged lid E, hinged back piece F, carrying springs f, the lianges or extensions e e', together with the swinging handle G on the wall a2, as described.
