This invention relates to improvements in safety razors and more particularly to a novel and improved blade adjustment for safety razors of the Gillette type.
With the Gillette razor it is possible to adjust the blade edges relative to the guard for a light or close shave. It is the practice of many men in shaving to go over the face twice-first, for a light shave with the blade edge close to the guard, and the second time for a close shave, with the blade edge spaced from the guard.
The object of this invention is to provide a positive means whereby the angularity of the blade may be readily adjusted so that the desired shave may be obtained.
A further object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive means for locking the blade in the adjusted position.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter to be fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 10 designatesthe top or head portion with a threaded stud extending thcrei' rom which is adapted to pass through a central aperture in the razor blade guard 11. Between the blade guard andthe head portion is positioned blade 13 which becomes flexed when the internally threaded handle or stem 12 is screwed into position against the lower face of the guard.
Under ordinary circumstances as the head ortion isv urged toward the guard, the blade is flexed andthe angularity 1s changed until guard and head. lVhen usine` a safety razor there can not be obtained diflerent angles by tilting the handle but it is necessary to tilt the blade itself which can be accomplished by tightening or loosening the handle which results in theengularity of the blade being changed. When this adjustment is made, the upper part of the razor, that is, head 10, guard 11, the blade 13 are not firm in respect to the handle 12 as the tension on the blade is not suiiciently strong to hold the upper part of the razor in a solid unit during shaving. The upper part of the handle has a tendency to turn which not only changes the proper angle of the blade but also often results in cutting of the face. ln order to obviate this danger and to hold the blade in the desired position after the adjustment has been made, I pro vide means for locking the razor in the adjusted osition.
The andle 12 is internally threaded and the lower end of the handle is open and locking bar which is threaded at 16 is adapted to be inserted into lthe'handle 12. On the outer end of the bar 15 is a handle or knob 14 which is preferably knurled on its eripheral surface to facilitate hand turning of the locking bar.
After the blade has been adjusted to the required angularity the locking bar 15 is screwed into the handle 12 until the end of the bar 15 comes into contact with the threaded stud extending from the head portion 10, this will hold the unit in the adjusted position and will insure that the upper part of the razor will not turn or get out of adjustment.
y Figure 3 is a modied form of the locking bar 15l in which the handle 14: has a pin 19 extending therethrough. The pin/is adapted to bev inserted into one ot a plurality of apertures 22 to lock the locking bar 15 in the adjusted position. Pin 2O has a head or handle 23 i'ornied on the end thereoi` and around the pin 19 is a spring for holding the pin in one of the holes 22.
Figures 5 and 6 show modiiied forms of 4the blade conforms to the curvature of the the locking bar 15 and the internally threaded portion of the handle 12. The handle 12 in the modified form has interrupted threads formed at 21 and the pin 15 has interrupted threads formed at 18. The use of interru ted threads in the handle 12 and on the loc ing bar 15 will permit of a rapid adjustment and locking of the razor in the desired position.
. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
1. In a safety razor, a guard, a member for coacting with said guard to clamp a blade thereto and having a stud projecting through the guard to adjustably secure the blade in place, a bar for locking the blade in the adjusted position and means for securing the locking bar in the desired position, said means including a spring pressed pinsecured on one end of said locking bar.
2. A safety razor comprising a head, a guard, an internally threaded stem, a series of openings in one end of said stem, said head portion having a threaded stud adapted to pass through the guard and into the threaded. stem whereby a razor blade may be lexed against the guard, and an adjusting screw in the stem, one end of the adjusting screw adapted to lock the blade in the adjusted position, one end of the adjusting screw provided wth a pin for cooperating with the series of openings in said stem for locking the adjusting screw in the desired position.
3. in a safety razor, a guard, a member coacting with said guard to clamp a `blade thereto and having a stud projecting through the guard to adjust the angularity of the blade, a hollow handle having a part thereof internally threaded, of a locking bar extending into said handle for securing the blade in the adjusted position and a pin member on said locking bar for holding the locking bar in the desired position.
4. A safety razor comprising a head, a guard, an internally threaded stem, a series of openings in said stem, Said head portion having a threaded stud adapted to pass through the guard into the threaded stem, an adjusting bar in the stern for locking the blade in the desired position, and a spring pressed pin carried by said adjusting bar, for cooperating with said series of openings for locking the adjusting bar in the desired posilon.
5. In a safety razor comprising a hollow handle having an internally threaded portion, a head adapted to receive a. blade, a threaded stud extending from said head, a guard for co-acting with said head portion to clamp a blade in place, a locking bar having interrupted threads is adapted to extend into said hollow handle, and spring pressed locking means on one end of said locking bar for securing the bar in the desired position.
