The present invention relates to adjustable.
bracket supports.
More particularly the present invention relates to a combination of an outlet receptacle and supporting means for an electric bracket, which supporting means permits adjustment of said bracket after the electric outlet receptacle has been secured in position.
An object of the present invention is to provide construction of the kind referred to which is cheap to manufacture, sturdy, and
well adapted to meet commercial needs. A'further object is to provide an adjustable bracket support which is simple for an artisan to handle.
Further objects will appear as the description proceeds.
Referring to the drawings- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of an no outlet receptacle having cooperatively associated therewith an ad ustable bracket support embodying theprinciples of the present invention; and
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken along the plane indicated by the arrows 2-2 of Figure 1. An electric outlet receptacle is indicate by the numeral 10, which receptacle may take any preferred form. Said rece tacle 10 may be secured in place by means 0 nails 11-11,
which may be driven into any convenient supporting means 12; or, said receptacle may be secured in place in any other preferred manner, as for example by box su porting ears such asillustrated in United tates Patent No. 1,597,243, granted to the present; applicants on August 24, 1926. Said receptacle 10 is provided with the usual knock-outs 13-13, which knock-outs, when removed, permit 'entry of electric house wires. The open face of the receptacle 10 is provided with the readily removable cover plate 14 having the opening 15'. In the particular cover plate 14 illustrated, said opening 15 is disposed within an outwardly swedged portion 16 presenting the substantially parallel side edge ortions 17-17. The cover plate 14 ordinaril has its front face at the boundaries of sai face approximately flush with the plane defining the outer wall of the the bracket 19 having the cup-shaped portion plaster, which plane is indicated in Figure 2 by the numeral 18.
Disposed in covering relationship withtheoutlet receptacle 10 and 'cover plate 14 is 66 20, the edge of which is adapted to rest against the plaster. As brackets are ordinarily provided, they have electric wires adapted to be spliced. to the electric house wires entering the outlet receptacle 10, sufiic ient slack being provided to permit such splicing.
According to the present invention, the bracket 19 is secured to the cover plate 14 of the outlet receptacle 10 by means'of an ad justable bracket support, indicated as a whole by the numeral 21. Said bracket support'21 comprises a pair of complementar clamping plates 22 and 23, respectively. Said plates 22 and 23 may be of substantially the same width and are of sufiicient length to embrace the two parallel side edges 17-17. As illustrated in Figure 2, the extremities of the plate 23 are swedged outwardly a small amount, whereby when said plates 22 and 23 are in 76 gripping relationship with the edges 17-17, said plates may be relatively close together.
Each plate 22 is provided with a pair of screw-threaded apertures 24-24 for the reception of screws 25-25, which screws have their heads 26-26 disposed in abutting relationship with the outer face of the plate 23. The plate 22 is provided with a central aperture 27 of suflicient diameter to loosely receive an annular boss 28 swedged rearwardl from the central portion of the plate 23, w ereby said plate 22 is. s'wingingly carried by the plate 23. The screws 26-26 hold the plates 22 and 23 against swinging movement after said plates22 and 23 have been mounted upon the coverplate 14. Said boss 28 is interiorly screw-threaded for the reception of a' screw 29, which may be provided with an ornamental capnut 30. It will be understood without detailed explanation that the clamping member 21 comprising the plates 22 and 23 may be adjusted relative to the cover plate 14, whereby even after the outlet receptac e 10 has been secured in position, the bracket 19 may be adjusted throughout a distance equal to the range of movement of the lates 22 and 23 within the opening 15 in sai cover plate 14. Adjustment is had by the simple expedient of loosening one or both of the screws -25 and moving the plates 22 and 23 to the desired position, after which the screws 25-25 may be tightened. The bracket 19 may then be secured in place by applying the cap nut to the screw 29.
Though a preferred embodiment of the present invention has been described in detail, many modifications will occur to those skilled in the art. It is intended to cover all such modifications that fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is 1. In combination, an outlet receptacle having a cover plate provided with an aperture having parallel side walls, and-bracket supporting means including clamping means ada ted-to clamp said side walls for holding sairi bracket supporting means adjustably relative to said outlet receptacle, said clamping means comprising a pair of plates and screw means for appl ing-clamping pressure to said plates, one of said plates having an internally screw-threaded boss extending through the other of said plates.
2. .An outlet receptacle having a cover, said cover being swedged outwardly within the confines of said cover, said swedged out portion having an elongated aperture provided with parallel side walls, and clamping means adjustably carried by said side walls, said clamping means being provided with means for supporting a bracket, said clamping means comprising a pair of plates, one of said plates having an internally screw-threaded boss disposed centrally thereof and extending through the other of said plates, and screw means for applying clamping pressure to said lates.- p 3. In combination, the cover portion of an outlet receptacle, said cover portion being provided with an elongated aperture, and a pair of plates adapted to clamp said cover portion and adjustable within said aperture, one of said plates having a swedged portion interiorly screw-threaded for the reception of bracket supporting means, said swedged plortion extending through the other of said ates. p 4. In combination, the cover part of an outlet receptacle, said cover part having a swedged out portion provided with an elongated aperture having parallel side walls, a pair of plates disposed in clamping relationshi with said side walls, said plates being adjustable along. said apertures,- and screwthreaded means for controlling the clamping functions of said plates, one of said plates having a swed ed portion interiorly screwthreaded for t e reception of bracket supporting means, said swedged portion extendmg through the other of said plates.

In combination, the cover part of an outlet receptacle, said 'cover part having a swedged out portion provided with an elongated aperture having parallel side walls, a pair of plates disposed in clamping relationship with said side walls, said plates being ad uStable along said aperture, and screwthreaded means for controlling the clamping functions of said plates, one of said plates being rovided with a hole and the other of said p ates being provided with a boss extending through said hole, said boss being screw-threaded for the reception of bracket supporting means. 6. In combination, the cover part of an outlet -receptacle, said cover part having an elongated aperture therein, said aperture having parallel side walls, clamping means having clamping relationship with said side walls, said clamping means comprisin a pair of lates, and screw-threaded means or contro ling the clamping action of said plates, one of said plates having a swedged portion interiorly screw-threaded for the reception of bracket supporting means, said swedged portion extending through the other of said plates.

In combination, the cover part of an outlet receptacle, said cover part having an elongated aperture therein, said aperture having parallel side walls, and clamping means having clamping relationship with said side walls, said clamping means comprising a pair of lates and screw-threaded means for, controlling the clamping action of said plates, one of said plates being provided with a centrally disposed hole, the other of said plates being provided with a boss extending through said hole, said boss being provided with means for holding a bracket. 8. In combination, the cover part of an outlet receptacle, said cover part having an elongated aperture therein, said aperture having parallel side walls,- and clamping means having clamping relationship with said side walls, said clamping means comprising a pair of plates and screw-threaded means for controlling the" clamping action of said plates, one of said plates belng pro vided with a centrally disposed hole, the other of said plates being provided with a boss extendin through said hole, said boss being interior screw-threaded for the reception of brac et supporting means.

Clamping means adapted to cooperate with an outlet receptacle, said clamping means comprising a pair of clamping plates '1 and screw-threaded means for controlling the clamping action of said plates, one of said plates being provided with a centrally dis posed hole, the other of said plates being provlded with a boss extending through said hole, said boss being provided with means for holding a bracket.

In combination, an outlet, receptacle, an electric bracket and supportin means for mounting said bracket upon sai receptacle, said supporting means comprising clamping 15 means adapted to cooperate with said receptacle, said clamping means comprisin a pair of clamping plates and screw-threads means for controlling the clamping action of said plates, one of said plates being provided with a centrally disposed hole, the other of said plates being provided with a boss extending through said hole, said boss being interiorly screw threaded, a screw threaded member disposed within said boss, and a cap nut upon 25 said screw threaded member for holding said bracket in position.
