CLAMP AND SHOE LAST VISE Filed May 10, 1929 Patented Dec. 22, 1931 UNITE STTES JOHN RATTAZZI, or BROOKLYN, New YORK CLAMP AND sl-ion LAST VIsE Application filed May 10, 1929. Serial No. 362,112.
This invention relates to a combined shoe vise and bench clamp.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a shoe vise particularly adapted for shoe lasts of various types and sizes to facilitate the hand sewing operations.
Another object of my. invention is to provide a vise and bench clamp-including provision for positioning a detachable shoe last to whereby the shoe and particularly the heel portion may be firmly held in position to. en-
able the operator to perform the hand sewing operations on the sole and shoe upper.
A further object of my invention is to construct a combined vise and clamp which will be simple, easily manufactured at a comparatively low cost, eficient and practical, strong, durable and capable of use on any type of work bench either in the factory or individual shop. To enable others skilled in the art to more fully comprehend the underlying features of my invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which Fig. 1 is a vertical, sectional view of the combined vise and clamp.
Fig. 2 is a rear View.
Fig. 3 is a partial, sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
- Referring now to the drawings, 5 designates the rear wall of a casting, preferably of metal, formed integral with a downward extension 6 and a base 7 The base is internally threaded to receive a clamping screw 8 having a bottom wheel 9 and a clamping head 10 whereby it may be securely fastened to a work bench or support.
The body of the casting is also provided with an integral bar or arm 11 at right angles thereto and in parallelism to the base but eX- tending somewhat beyond the outer end 12 of the base. The bar or arm 11 is formed with an upright, shoulder 120. at right angles thereto, the inner face 13 being provided with a countersunk surface 14 shaped to conform with the heel of a shoe. The outer edge-of the countersunk surface is serrated to provide a gripping surface.
The body of the casting is also formed with an upper section'15, the head 16 of which is internally threaded to receive a threaded clamping screw 17 having a wheel 18 at its outer end; The inner end of the screw is preferably providedv with a short, round 5 shank 19 being adapted to enter a recess or openinggusually found in shoe lasts. The shoe lastjZO as illustrated, and over which the shoe proper is positioned, is'preferably provided with a serrated heel surface21 so that so when the screw is rotated,the heel of the shoe will beheld in clamped position against the countersunk surface of the shoulder. Consequently by tightening-the screw 17 the last and shoe thereon may be clamped either in a vertical or a horizontal or in an angular position to facilitate the sewing or cutting operations on the shoe proper.
While I have shown and described my invention with some degree of particularity, it willbe realized that other modifications and changes may be resorted to under special conditions. Itherefore do not wish to be limited and restricted to the exact details shown and described but reserve the right to make such changes and modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the subject matter now being claimed.
Having shown and described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is v 1. A combined shoe last vise and clamp comprising a casting having a depending comprising a casting having. a depending c5 7 base and a clamping screw, an arm integral with the casting above said base and parallel v thereto, an upright shoulder on the end of said arm, said shoulder having a circularly countersunkdepression adapted to receive the heel of a shoe, ;a horizontal shoe last clamping screw in the upper section of the casting, the inner end of said last mentioned screw engaging and pivotally and removably supporting the shoe last in order to clamp the same againstthe shoulder in substantlally anygposition radially disposed in respect tothe horizontal axis of said screw.
3. A clamp and a shoe last vise---integfral therewith and adapted to rip at-.rightanglesi i g to the direction of operation of said clamp,
said vise comprising a vertical1y: disposed circularly recessed anvil, a last facing said anvil, and means rotatably sup'portingsaid last coaXiallyto the circular recess in said anvil and adapted to feed *saidlast towards a and away from said anvil."
4. Aclamp andfa shoe last vise integral therewith, and a'daptedto grip at right angles to'the direction ofoperation'oi= said-clamp,
said vise comprising a vertically disposed,
circularly recessed anvil, a lastfacing'said anvil, a serrated rim around said circularre- V cess in said anvil, and'means rotatably supporting said-last-coaxially to the circular re- 'cess inl'sa'id anvil and adaptedto feed said last towards and away fromsaid anvil;
. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
