MCCARVILLE, F ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA This invention relates to a cover and polisher devicefor brooms, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this kind comprising two members, one of which when applied entirely enclosing the head of a broom or the like while the second member when applied is disposed over the first mem- The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my 1mproved cover and polisher device for brooms whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanyin drawings, wherein %igure 1 is a view in elevation illustrating a cover and polisher device constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position, a portion bein broken away;

My improved cover and polisher device as herein disclosed comprises two members A and B, the member A constituting a cover for a broom head or the like and the member B constituting the polisher proper.

to provide a casing or sheath 1' through which ii is directed a gathering cord 2, the wall of the casing or sheath 1 is provided with a-fsuitable opening 3 through which a. portion of the cord is directed. erably continuous and upon requisite pull being imposed thereon the end of the cover member A provided with the casing or sheath 1 is gathered or contracted to assure the properfitting of the cover member upon a broom head or the like as particularly illustrated in the accompanying drawings. 'In other words, this end of the cover member A is contracted or gathered to substantially closely engage around the handle member H of the broom or the like. -To facilitatethe desired maintenance of this end portion of the member A in its gathered or contracted adjustment I provide the cord 2 at-desired points therealong with the conventional separable fasteners 4 preferably of a resilient head and socket type v When-these separable fasteners 4 are in connected or locked arrangement expansion of the gathered end of the member A is pre- 7 vented.

i The member A is of a length materially in excess of the length of the broom head and after being initially applied to the broom head as illu'strated' in Figure 5, the side portions of that part of the member-A positioned beyond the broom-head are t'urnedor folded inwardly, as at'5, with the overlapping portions of the free corners of the member A having interlocking separable fasteners 6 also preferably of'a resilient-head and socket type. When these fasteners 6 are engaged the slde portions of the extended part of the member A are lockedin such arrangement. Inwardly of its sides the end portion of the member A carrying the separable fasteners 6 also carry the separable fasteners 7 -wh1ch, when the extended portionof the member A is folded to overlie the broom head proper, interlock with the'coacting separable fasteners 8 suitably positioned upon the member A at a point in relatively close proximity to the end of the member A provided with the casing or sheath 1. In this end of the cover member A a wall thereof 7 The cord 2 is preftioned intermediate the fasteners 8 hereina before referred to and in transverse alignment therewith.

Through the instrumentality of the coact ing fastening members 7 and 8 and 10 and 11 the cover member A is held to a broom head in a manner to effectively enclose the same and with the liability of accidental displacement substantially eliminated. At the same time this member A when desired can be readily and conveniently removed.

The polisher member 13 is preferably made of silk cloth and comprises a tubular member provided atone end with a sheath or casing 12 through which is threaded -a continuous strip 14, said strip 14 coacting with the sheath or casing 12 to gather or contract one end portion of the member B so that the same may effectively coact with the handle member H of the broom and also be properly arranged over the broom head and the cover member A applied thereto. The casing or sheath 12 at desired points therearound has secured-thereto the loops or eye members 15 which provide efficient means to facilitate the removal of the polisher device from applied position and particularly along the handle member H.

With the member Aapplied to the broom head, the member B may "be effectively :employed in household work as a polishing member without-liability of injury to the surfaces .being (treated. {It is/to be further stated I that the efficiency of the polishing "operation is materially increased in View ofthe fact that the cover memberA is soaappliedto the broom head to permit said broomjhead freedom of movement. While Ihave hereinbefore particularlyreferred to my invention as being employed in connection with a-broom head, I wish tostate thatit-can be used with equaladaantage in connection witha Whisk broom or kindred brushing element..

From the -foregoing description it is thought to he-obv ions that a cover and polisher device for rbrooms constructed in accordance with my invention is-particularly well adapted for use by reason of the-convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and employed, and-it willalso be obviousthat my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim A cover member for a brush head comprising a tubular member of a length greater than the length of the brush head, means for contracting one end portion of the member, the opposite end portion of the cover memher having 'coacting locking means for bolding side portions of the cover member folded, and locking means carried by said side portions of the cover member and thecover memher in relatively close proximity to its con trac'ted end, said last named locking means coacting when the cover member is folded along a line transversel thereof.
