Power hammers are usually provided with some means of adjusting the hammer carrying guides with relation to the anvil. The present invention is designedto improve this adjustment. In carrying out the invention wedges are used for adjusting the parts relatively to each other in two directions and improved means are provided for lockingthe wedges in adjustment and also for locking the wedges withthe parts on which they are adjusted so as to permit of a slight free movement between the uprights ofthe'hammer and the base. The uprights are yieldingly held on the base by means of bolts 11 which operate through springs 12 on the'uprights in clamping them on the base. In the same manner, the wedges 27 have a tongue and groove connection 29 with thebase and adjusting bolts 32 extend into the, base, and project through slots 30. The wedges haveserrations 31 which are en'gagedbya plate 33 similar front to the plate 22. The plate 33 is clamped by a bolt 82 and the adjustment is secured in the same manner as with the wedges l3.
WVhat I claim as new is 1. In a hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders on the base and an upright; a Wedge between the shoulders, said wedge having a tongue and groove connection with one of the shoulders; and locking means on the shoulder having the tongue and groove connection for the wedge locking the wedge in adjustment.

In a hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders on the base and an upright; a wedge between the shoulders, said wedge having a tongue and groove connection with one of the shoulders; and locking means on the shoulder having the tongue and groove connection for the wedge locking the wedge in adjustment comprising a slot in the wedge, serrations on the wedge, a bolt extending through the slot, and a plate having serrations clamped by the bolt against the serrations on the wedge.

In a hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders on the base and an upright; 21. wedge between the shoulders, said wedge having a tongue and groove connection with one of the shoulders; and locking means for the wedge locking the same in adjustment and in fixed relation with the shoulder having the tongue and groove connection comprising a slot in the wedge, serrations on the wedge, a bolt extending through the slot, and a plate having serrations clamped by the bolt against the serrations on the wedge, the axis of the bolt and peaks of the serrations being out of register.
6. In a hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders on the base and upright; a
wedge between the shoulders, said wedge having a slot th-erethrough and serrations thereon; a bolt extending through the slot; and a plate on the bolt having serrations clamped by the bolt against the serrations on the wedge for locking the wedge in adjustment, the peaks of the serrations being out of register with the axis of the bolt.
7. In a hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders on the base and upright, said shoulders extending crosswise of each other, one laterally and the other forward and back; a wedge between the laterally extending shoulders; and a wedge between the forward and back. extending shoulders.

Ina hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders on the base and upright, said shoulders extending crosswise of each other, one laterally and the other forward and back; a wedge between the laterally extending shoulders; and a wedge between the forward and back extending shoulders, said wedges being in different planes and crossing each other.

In a hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders on the base and upright, said shoulders extending crosswise of each other, one laterally and the other forward and back; a wedge between the laterally extending shoulders; and a wedge between the forward and back extending shoulders, one of said wedges having a tongue and groove connection with the upright and the other wedge a tongue and groove connection with the base.
10. In a hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders on the base and upright, said shoulders extending laterally and forward and back; a wedge between the laterally extending shoulders; a wedge between the forward and back extending shoulders, one of said wedges having a tongue and groove connection with the upright and the other wedge a tongue and groove connection with the base; and means locking the wedges in adjustment.
11. In a hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders between the base and each upright, said shoulders at each upright extending crosswise of each other, one laterally and the other forward and back; wedges between the laterally extending shoulders; and wedges between theforward and back extending shoulders.
12. In a hammer, the combination of a base; guide uprights on the base; opposing wedge shoulders between the base and each upright, said shoulders at each upright extending crosswise of each other, one laterally and the other forward and back; wedges bemy hand.
