This invention relates to improvements in yarn making apparatus and is directed more particularly to spindles for use in connection with such apparatus.

A base or rail 2'is shown which may represent the side rail of a 'spinning frame or the like which is adapted to support the -apparatus of the invention.v A member iis secured to the rail after the manner vshown for rotatably supporting a spindle. The member A is preferably in the form of a cup or tubular in shape so as to provide a skirt or annular wall 4' A lower hollow spindle 6 extends upwardly within the cup and passes through the lower wall for securing the cup and spindle to the rail as shown. In this way the spindle and cup are held against rotation. The spindle comprises an upper hollow spindle 8 which is preferably tapered for receiving a spool or bobbin 10 (shown in dotted lines) and is integral with a pulley 12. A hub 13 extending downwardly from the pulley is rotatable on the non-rotatable spindle 6. Corresponding tapering surfaces 11i provided between said hub and spindle 6 serve to support the spindle 8 and pulley for rotative movements on the spindle 6. An annular recess 15 is providedl in the pulley around the hub.
As will be seen the spindle 6 extends upwardly into the hub of the pulley while the hub 13 extends downwardly into the cup i whereby a bearing is provided for the rotative spindle which is of substantial length. Also it will be noted that the bearing extends intol the pulley so as to be capable of withstanding any pulling strains of a belt engaging the pulley. This in detail comprises a central collar 18 f which is provided with a tapered opening to fit the ta ered spindle whereby it may be frictional y held by the spindle for rotation and yet be removable therefrom. This collar is threads thereabove and a longitudinal key way 20 all as shown. A tension hub`22 provided with a yarn receiving eye 2li in the outer eud thereof is rotatable on said collar and rests on the flange 19 thereof. A washer 26 slidable along the threaded portion of the `collar 18 is held against rotation thereon by an indent 28 which engages slot 20. A spring 36 disposed between the member 26 and a nut 32 in threaded engagement with the collar is adjusted by screwing the nut along the collar. This spring urges the parts into fric-l tional engagement.
In operation the pulley 12 land spindle 8 -are rotated by a driving belt passing around the pulley inthe usual way. By reason ofthe frictional action the arm does not overtravel the spin-dle or spool and the yarn passing therethrough is not loosened but instead is maintained taut at all times.
As one feature the tension mechanism may be readily removed from the spindle to facilitate the changing of spools.

The shell holds the yarn in a comparatively small radius during operation so that it will not loop outwardly and become tangledwhen the spindle and spool is stopped. Y f
As will be seen, I have provided apparatus wherein a rotatable spindle and a non-rotatable spindle arearranged whereby one supports the other and whichV are separable. Also it will be notedthat a bearing is provided which extends upwardly into the pulley while the parts are arranged to facilitate the lubrication of the parts without danger of dripping onto the. yarn. As a furthervfeatureit will be noted that the tension device isagdapted to tension the yarn to obtain Various teni sion eifects while the same is readily separable from kthe spindle.
I am aware that many changes may be made in the form of the invention -without departing from the scope of the invention, and I therefore prefer to be limited by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description.
What I claim is:
l. Yarn making apparatus comprising in combination, a non-rotatable hollow supporting spindle, a pulley rotatably supported thereon, a hollow spool carrying spindle carried by said pulley, a yarn tensioning arm on said spool carrying spindle arranged for frictional engagement therewith and a yarn guide cap above said spindle having a peripheral edge wall for guiding yarn from said spindle and a central aperture therethroughfor receiving yarn passing through saidV spindles; v2. Yarn making apparatus comprising in combination, a non-rotatable hollow spindle, a member including a hollow spindle rotatable thereon for carrying a spool of yarn, a tension varm removably carried by said rotatable spindle including adjustable means for frictionally clutching the same to said spindle having means for receiving yarn unwound from a spool on said spindle, a guide member provided with an opening therethrough for securing the former to the latter, va pulley having ahub rotatable on said spindle which extends downwardly within said cup and provided with an annular groove into which the walls of the cup extend, a hollow spindle carried by said pulley and a device adjacent the upper end of said spindle for receiving a cord from a spool which may be carried by said last-named spindle.
4. Yarn making apparatus comprising in combination, a rail, a hollow spindle including upper rotatable and lower non-rotatable separable parts, the lower part being secured to a rail,'a cup having a lower wall provided with an opening through which y the lower part of said spindle extends and by which it is clamped to the said rail andL including side walls which extend upwardly from said rail,`
a pulley secured to the upper part of said spindle having a hub rotatable in the non-rotatable part of saidspindle which extends downwardly with the side walls of the cup and a belt receiving part extending downwardly towards said rail outside the walls of the cup and means at the upper end of the spindle for receiving` a cord from a spool which may be carried by said spindle.
5. Yarn making apparatus Vcomprisingin combination, a rail,- a cup having an apertured lower wall on said rail and side Walls extending upwardly from said rail, a lower non-rotatable spindle` having its lower end extending through the aperture of said lower wall of the cup and means for securing the same to the rail, a pulley having a hub extending into said cup provided with a bore for receiving said spindle through a part of its length and a part extending downwardly towards said rail outside the walls of said cup,
