Description

.I trolled through t Patented ct. 20, 1931 uNrrrfzD STATES PATENT OFFICE JDSEPH IIEUKAI, F JASPER, INDIANA mow PLUG nur Application led September 12, 1980. Serial No. 481,559.
reliable for its intended purpose and that is comparatively inexpensive to manufacture,...
With the foregoing and other objects` in view, the invention consists of a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more speclically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is disclosed an em bodiment of the invention, but it is to be un-- derstood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the claims hereto appended.
ln the drawings where like reference characters show like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the plug bait `in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof, Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectlon through the body of the plug illustrating the manner of attaching the tail thereto,
Figure 4 1s a perspective vlew of the dlvmg spoon removed from the body of the plug.
ln the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention v5 indicates generally the substantially circular body portion tapering from one end to the other. Intermediate the ends upon the top side of the body portion 5 Vis an elongated axially extending tin 6 formed of a portion of a goose feather. Anchored to the opposite sides of the body portion 5 as at 7, 8 are the laterally projectmg iins 9, 10 which are also made of a portion of a goose feather. On the forward end of the body portion 5 is a V-shaped notchv 11 in the vortex of which is anchored the eye staple 12.
-' A metal leader 13 is connected to the eye of the staple so as to form a substantially rigid connection with the trolling line to permit trolling thereof. The forward end of the body portion 5 is made to simulate the head of a fish-having eyes 14 and the notch 11 represents the open mouth of the fish. The whole make up of the body portion is preferably to simulate a minnow.
The spoon plate is indicated o'enerally at 15 and the plate is of angular configuration having one leg 16 attached by means of rivets 17 to the bottom of the body portion at the forward margin thereof. The other leg 18 declines forwardly. The extreme lower end of the leg 18 is formed with a V-shaped notch 19 the confronting edges of which are bent inwardly as at 20, 21. The edges of the bent in portions are rounded as will be clearly shown in Figure 4 of the drawings. The de-j clining leg 18 causes the body to dive up and down while being trolled through the water, while the inwardly curved portions 20,21 of the notch cause the minnow to swerve from' side to side. rIhe rear end of the body portion 5 is rounded as at 22 and there are a pair of screw eyes 23 anchored in the rear end. The tall portion of the bodyis indicated generally at 24 and on the forward end is formed with a recess corresponding with the rounded portion 22 of the body portion 5. Anchored in the forward end of the tail portion 24 are a pair of screw eyes 25. The eyelets 26, 27 of the screw eyes are coupled together so as to allow a serpentine effect to the body portion. In other words the eyelets permit lateral and a slight up and down movement., rlhe tail portion 24 tapers from the forward to the'rear end and on the rear end of the tail portion 24 are anchored a air of tail fins 28, 29 which are also forme of portlons of a goose feather. Loosely connected to the body portions 5 at spaced intervals are the snaring hooks 30, 31 which are of the conventional type.
While the dorsal fin 6, lateral fins 9, 10 and tail fins 28, 29 are said to be formed of feathers, any other flexible material like rubber would serve the purpose, the idea being to have the fins wave as near as possible like the fins on a live minnow when swimming.
The present embodiment of the invention has .been disclosed in considerable detail Elli merely for the purpose of exemplicetion since 1n actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated es desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It is to be understood that by describing in detail herein any particular form, structure or arrangement, it is not intended to limit the invention beyond the terms of the several claims or the requirements of the prior art.
Having described my invention, what claim is: v
l. A lure comprising a jointed buoyant body, sharing hooks connected to the body, a plate on the forward portion of the body declining forwardly from the body, said plate having a notch therein, and the edges of the notch being turned inwardly to cause the body to wabble.
2.. A lure comprising a jointed buoyant body, sharing hooks connected to the body, a plate on the forward portion of the body declining forwardly from the body, said plate having a notch therein, and the edges of the notch being turned inwardly to cause the body to wabble, and top lateral and tail ins on the body formed of feathers.
3. A lure comprising a jointed buoyant body, snoring hooks connected to the body, a plate on the forward portion of the body declining forwardly from the body, said plate having a notch therein, and the edges ot the notch bein turned inwardly to cause the body to wa ble, and top, lateral and tail ins on the body formed of feathers, and a joint n the body allowing portions of the body to move laterally and vertically.
ln testimony whereof l ax my signature.
. JSEJPH NEUKAM.
