The invention relates to collapsible tube holders and more particularly has reference to holder provided with a protective covering for the tube placed therein.
In present practice devices of this character have possessed a highly complicated design with an attendant multiplicity of parts. Many of them have failed to provide a protective covering so that the material within the tube is prevented from soiling the hands. Holders which have been of simple design have possessed the disadvantage that they have not been provided with a base whereby they may be seated upon atable or other structure and no attention has 1 .en given to associating a protective covering with them. Further disadvantages in holders have been their great size and bulk which make it impossible for them to be packaged in the usual container in which collapsible tubes are placed for distribution to consumers.
The major object of this invent-ion is the provision of a novel collapsible tube holder which is of simple design, and inexpensive construction.
An equally important object of the invention is the provision of a tube holder having a base, a standard and an arm integral therewith, the collapsible tube adapted to be enaged by the base and by the arm.
Another object of the invention is the designing of a tube holder having a collapsible tube adapted to have a protective covering associated therewith so as to prevent the soiling of the hands when using the tube.
Still another object of the invention is the devising of a tube holder provided with a base adapted to be seated upon a fiat surface so that the holder and tube when placed therein will be in an upright position.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a tube holder of such construction that it may be seated upon a fiat surface or may be hung from a support.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a tube holder of a relatively small size and bulk which with the tube placed therein may be readily packaged in a box type container.
Yet a further important object of the invention is the provision of a collapsible tube holder formed of a single piece of material.
With these and other objects in view, which may be incident to my improvements, the invention consists in the parts and combinations to be hereinafter set forth and claimed, with the understanding that the several necessary elements comprising my invention may be varied in construction, proportlons and arrangement without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
The invention comprehends the provision of a novel holder for a collapsible tube, a protective covering being associated with the holder so as to prevent the soilin of the hands of the user. One method 0 practically efi'ecting the concept of this invention is theprovision of a holder having a. base, a standard and an arm, the tube being engaged by the base and the arm. The invention further comprehends associating with the holder a strip of protective material which covers the face of the tube most distant from the standard.
In order to make my invention more clearly understood, I have shown in the accompanying drawings, means for carrying the same into practical efiect without limiting the improvements in their useful applications to the particular constructions which, for the purpose of explanation, have been made the subject of illustration.

There is shown in Figures 1 and 2 a holder generally designated as 1 with a collapsible tube 2 associated therewith. It may be observed the tube is provided with the usual flat closed end 3, discharge end 1 having a neck 5 and a cap closure 6.
The holder which is formed of a single piece of material, such as sheet metal for example, comprises a base or stand 7, a standard 8 and an arm 9. It should be observed that the end of the base 7 is bent at 10 so that an engaging portion or engaging member 11 may be formed which is substantially parallel with the base.
The flat closed end 3 of the tube 2 is inserted between the end of the engagin memor the urpose of mounting the tube within the liolder. In order that the other end of the tube may be held within the holder, a slotted openin 12, as shown in Figure 5, is formed in t e arm 9. This slot extends from the free end of the arm inwardly for a substantial distance and is of a size suflicient to allow the neck 5 of the tube to be inserted therein and to have the closure cap 6, which may be of the screw threaded type, tightly secured upon the neck of the tube so that its side adjacent to the tube is in contact with the arm 9.
It has been pointed out as one of the objects of the invention to provide a protective covering for the tube so as to prevent the hands of the user from becoming soiled. Such a covering is shown in the flexible strip which may be of celluloid, cellophane, or any other desired material. ()ne end of this covering strip, as indicated at 14, is positioned between the flat end of the tube and the end of the engaging member 11 of the base. The strip may be of a suflicient length to allow it toextend from the end of the engaging member to the bend 10, as shown in Figure 2, or the strip may be made shorter so that it does 'not extend for the length described.
The opposite end 15 of the strip is bent at right an les to the body of the covering and is provided with a slotted openin so that the strip may be inserted below t e arm 9 and may engage the neck of the tube.
From an inspection of Figure 1, it ma be appreciated that the strip 13 is of a width substantially equal to that of the standard 8 and that it entirely covers the face of the tube opposite to the standard.
As may be observed in Figure 2 the standard 8 of the holder is substantially at right angles to the base and the arm 9, at right angles to the standard or parallel to the base. The base 7 is of a 'suflicient length to allow the holder to be seated upon a flat surface so that it will remain in an upright position.
If it is desired to hang the holder from a support a hook or loop 16 formed of wire or other suitable material is provided. This hook is slipped around the arm 9 and has its inner ends of a suflicient length to prevent it from becoming disengaged from the arm. Of course, any other type of hook may be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
In Figures 3 and 4 a slightly different form of the invention is disclosed. In this form the base 7 has slidably mounted thereon an auxiliary base 17. The auxiliary base is rovided with integral ears 18, on each 0 its sides so that they may be bent over and overlap the upper face of the main base 7. In Figure 4 the auxiliary base 17 is shown in extended osition and the ears 18 in engagement witli the flat end of the tube. This construction allows the end 19 of the protective covering 13 to be inserted between the ears 18 and the upper face of the main base so that it may be securely held therein.
As in the construction disclosed in Figures 1 and 2 the standard 8 is formed integral with the main base 7 and has an integral arm 9 formed upon its end so as to be parallel to the main base. Instead of providing the upper bend in the protective covering as shown in Figure 2, an auxiliary arm 20 is formed upon the main arm 9. This arm extends for a short distance parallel to the standard and the upper end 21 of the material strip is engaged between the inner face of the arm 20 and the tube.
A modified form of opening in the arm 9 for the reception of the neck of the tube is also disclosed. In this instance the arm 9 is provided with a circular openin 22 through which the neck of the tube is adapted to pass. As in the case of Figure 2 the closure cap 6 has its lower surface in bearing with the upper surface of the arm 9.
The form of the invention disclosed in Figures 3 and 4, it will be appreciated, affords an adequate stand for the holder so that it may be seated upon a flat surface. A hook 16 similar to that described is also disclosed in order that the holder may be hung from a suitable support.
In the form of the invention shown in Figures 1 and 2, to place the tube within the holder the closure cap 6 is slightly loosened or may be entirely removed. The closed end 3 of the tube is then inserted between the standard and the end of the engaging member 11. At this time the lower end of the strip 13 may also be engaged with the base of the holder. After this operation has been completed the neck of the discharge end of the tube is positioned between the sides of the opening 12 and the upper end of the material strip may be similarly engaged with the standard an moved the cover may be re laced and the holder either stood upon a tab e or hung from a sup ort.
In t e form of the invention shown in Figures 3 and 4, the auxiliary base 17 is positioned a little distance awa from the ront face of the standard 8, and e lower end 19 of the material strip 13' inserted between the ears of the auxiliary base. The tube 2, with the closure ca lremoved then has its neck inserted throu the opening 22, and its lower end positione between the standard and the ears of the auxiliary base. After this the auxiliary base is ulled outwardly or towards the closed end of the tube is firmly engaged thereby. In order to secure the free end of the protective covering 13' it is slipped between the auxiliary arm 20 and the side of the tube.
It will be appreciated that in order to e ect the contents of the tube shown in Figures 3 and 4, the ste 's previously described in connection with F out.
While I have shown the holder of Figure 2 provided with a slotted opening 12 and the tube of Fi re 4 provided with a circular opening,'it wi 1 be understood that these may be interchanged on the various forms of the invention.
Likewise in connection with Figures 3 and 4 the hook 16 could bebent outwardly from the back of the standard so that its upright arms would be substantially in line with the end of the auxiliary base 17 most distant from the standard when the auxiliary base is inextended position. By such an arrange.- ment the holder could-be readily hung from a support which is in close proximity to a wall or other flat surface. While the hook 16 has been described as providing means for a hanger in order that the holder and the tube associated therewith may be suspended from a support, it will be appreciated that the hook may also be used for a holder of a brush. The advantage of this will be appreciated when a tooth paste tube is associated with the holder. In this instance the brush may be readily inserted between the hook and the arm of the holder. By this means the paste and the brush used to apply the same may be kept together.
As the covering material is of a flexible nature it will be appreciated that by pressin upon the tube .wit the finger, contents 0 the tube may be readily discharged. As an important object of the invention it has been pointed out that the holder is of such design that it maybe placed within the usual boxes or containers in which tubes of this nature are packed. Such an expedient is shown in Figure 5 where the holder of Figures 1 and 21s placed within a suitable 'contamer 23, such as the usual cardboard or pasteboard bpx. As is well known, this ty of box container 23 is employed in the pach a ng of toothpaste tubes. With the holder p aced within the container 23 it will be appreciated that a stiffener for the container is provided as well as a guard for the tube which effectively revents the burstin or rupturing of the tu e as well as the container during shipment, and eliminates the dangers of improper packing.
In making up the holder it may be painted any color or any combination of colors so as to give an attractive appearance. Similarly the covering stri 13 or 13 may be provided with a colored order or other design. If desired, printed matter, bearing the name of the manufacturer of the tube may be inscribed either upon the holder itself or upon the covering material. In any event it will e appreciated that the combination of the tube and holder presents a permanent advertisement. I
It is to be understood that the holder may be used with a tube containing any type of paste, paint, or other substances for which tubes of this type are employed.
From the foregoing description it will be appreciated that I have provided a novel holder for a collapsible tube which is of simple design, possessing but few parts'and is of inexpensive construction. It will also. be realized that a holder possessing relatively small size which may be packaged in the usual box container has been designed. Furth er it is apparent that I have incorporated with a holder a protective covering which prevents the hands of the user from becoming soiled.
While I have shown and'described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I do not confine myself to the precise details of construction herein set fort by way of illustration, as it is apparent that many changes and variations may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention, or exceeding the scope of the appended claims.
I claim 1. A holder for a collapsible tube com rising a main base, an auxiliary base sli ably mounted thereon, a standard secured to said main base, an arm formed upon said standard parallel to said bases, said arm being provided III with an opening and an auxiliary arm formed upon the main arm parallel to said standard, a protective covering strip for said tube, the closed end of saidtube. and an end of said strip adapted to be en d by the auxiliary base, the discharge en of the tube being end by said opening and the other end of e covering strip being engaged by the tube and the auxiliary arm.
