Description
C. 1C. 8f, 20.177'. NOYES.
SHIRTS. No'.18z,768, Patented net. s, 1876.
NrrED STATES' PATENT OFFICE,
CHARLES C. NOYES AND DAVID W. NOYES, 0F BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRTS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,768, dated October 3, 1876; application filed April 10, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, CHARLES C. NOYES and DAVID W. NOYES, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and Stateof Massachusetts, co-partners, under firm-name of NOYESBROTHERS, have invented a new and Improved Method of Cutting, Fitting, and Making Shirts; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents the entire shirt, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged View of the bosom and neck-band.
The nature of our invention consists in the cut of the shirt neckfband and bosom, and in thecollar stud-hole.
The neck-band is composed of two pieces, cut on the bias of the cloth, and having their ends lapped and joined at an angle to form a point in the front of the neck-band instead of a curve, and having the button-hole cut perpendicularly through the four thicknesses of the lapped ends, substantially as hereinafter more fully described. e
1n Fig. 2, the neck-band a, a meets at the middle point b, and the stud-hole is at c. By the .old method of cutting the neck of the shirt circular or rounding, instead of to a point, it stands or springs out from the neck when cut down the same as when cut high, and, consequently, throws the bosom out of place, instead of allowing it to lie at on the chest, as when out, by our method. By cutting the band to a point it lies flat on the neck, and, being made in two pieces, which lap, produces a stronger and much more dura* ble button-hole for the stud or collar-button; and the button-hole being cut perpendicular, is less liable to be enlarged by strain from the collar, worn by use, or to permit the stud to be forced out.
We claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A shirt neck-band, composed of two pieces cut on the bias, and having their lends lapped and joined at an angle to form a point in the front of the neck-band, instead of a curve, and having the button-hole cut perpendicular- 1y through the four thicknesses of the lapped ends, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
CHARLES CLAUDIUS NOYES. DAVID WILLIAM NOYES.
