I I Inventors Q) .Zfdeoi/Z J azzZ y b/zizjlfaizidli a *5 Patented Sept. 29, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GUIDE roRrIrE CLEANING RODS Application filed May 25, 1931. Serial N0. 539,882.
This invention relates to a guide for pipe cleaning rods, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character which is particularly adapted for use in cleaning waste pipes from fixtures which are soldered or otherwise connected to Y-fittings. 1
Another important object of the invention is to provide a guide for pipe cleaning rods of thecharacter set forth having means thereon for supporting the same in a manner to prevent accidental falling into the Y.
Other objects of the invention are to pro vide a guide for pipe cleaning rods of the character described which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, efficient and reliable in use and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoingand still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein I Y Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with this lnventlon, showing the same mounted in op The reference numeral 5 designates the lower portion of a waste pipe from a fixture (not shown) which is soldered, as at 6, in
the branch 7 of a Y 8. The Y 8, in its upper end, is provided with the usual threaded opening 9 in the reducer 10 for the reception of a removable clean-out plug (not shown). 1
In use, the goose neck 2 and the tube 1 are inserted inthe Y8 through the clean out opening 9 after which the flexible cleaning rod 11 having the handle 12 thereon is threaded through the guide in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawings. If desired, the guide may be permitted to rest on the arm 4;, It will also be seen that the arm 4: will prevent the device from accidentally dropping into the Y 8. The goose neck 2- is formed to direct the flexible cleaning rod 11 upwardly through the branch 7 into the waste pipe 5. Various types of flexible cleaning rods may be used with equal facility with the guide constituting this invention. 1
It is believed that the many advantages of a guide for pipe cleaning rods constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed. 7
What is claimed is p A guide for pipe cleaning rods comprising an elongated tube having one end portion longitudinally curved, a goose neck formed integrally with the other end of the I tube, and a laterally projecting supporting arm rigidly mounted on the tube.
