My invention relates to display racks and more particularlyto racks of that character for supporting books, magazines and the like, the principal objects of the invention being to adjust supporting members to the sizes of the books, to latch the edges of books for retaining the same securely on the support, and to provide for quick and easy adjustment of latching members to the sizes of the books.

0 Further objects are to support a closed book and an open book on the same rack whereby the cover and contents may both be displayed, to latch the leaves of an open book, and to support the several portions thereof.

In accomplishingthese and other objects of the invention, I have provided improved details of structure the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring in detail to the drawings: 1 designates a standard comprising preferably a strip of metal having parallel flanges --2 provided with openings 3 forming pairs of aligned openings to receive a plurality of rack elements presently described, one of said elements being a foot or bracing member 4 comprising preferably a wire having its Q- intermediate portion bent to provide a. foot 5 adapted to engage the surface on which the rack is mounted. The portions of the wire are twisted together as at 6, and the outer ends are slightly backbent at an angle corresponding to the suitable inclination of the standard to the surface, to form arms 7 for engaging the back of the standard when the rack is set up, the wire ends then being bent laterally and forwardly to provide lat- "eral rack engaging arms 8 and fingers 9, the

fingers having tips 10 bent toward each other for mounting in the openings of the standard whereby a resilient and easily operable hinge is provided for connecting the brace with the standard. a r One of my purposes is to support a plurality of books or the like, for example magazines, in different positions on the rack and to adjust the supports for difierent sizes of magazines, and for this purpose I provide a movable bracket 11 comprising preferably a single wire having its intermediate portion bent to form parallel seats 12 and upbent to form a retaining book 13, the ends of the wires being bent parallel with the hook portion to form arms 14 and the tips being outbent to provide'lugs 15 engageable in a selected pair of openings 3, whereby the arms 14 may be pressed together for admitting the arms between the flanges of the standard and inserting the lugs in the openings. The mounted bracket will be rotatably' but securely supported from the standard, the arms lying against the surface thereof and the hook projecting outwardly from the flanges to receive a magazine.

I further provide retaining members for latching the edges of the magazine and provide these preferably'in pairs associated with each of the types of brackets described, the retainers 19 and 20 associated withthe lower bracket comprising rods mounted in selected openings and slidable therein, selected ends of the rods being provided with hooks. 21 having fingers 22 extending in spaced relation with the bodies of the rods andadapted to rest against and latch the leaves of the' magazine. The rods are rotatable in the openings, whereby the fingers 22 tend to fall into engagement with the outer surface of the exposed portion of the magazine when the hooks are moved over the edges thereof. The opposite ends of the rods are preferably provided with latching or stop members 23 which may consist of upset portions of the rOds for stopping the outward movement thereof...

The retaining rods therefore are especially adapted to brace and latch the outspread portions of a magazine whether the heavier portionmounted on the bracket is the left or the right hand side ofthe open book.

6. A display rack of the character described comprising a support having spaced pairs of aligned openings, a bracket mounted on the support, and retainers mounted to slide laterally in the openings of the support including a latching member comprising a rod bent to form resilient arms, said arms being tensioned for mounting in adjacent pairs of openings for frictional engagement therein, and said member having a hook on one end for engaging the edge of a book supported by the bracket.
