UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIMON B. PARKER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO HAMILTON B. FOLLETT, OF SAME PLACE.
' IMPROVEMENT IN cLAsPs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 181,712, dated August 29, 1876; application filed July 26, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SIMON B. PARKER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Clasps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The drawing isa representation of my improved clasp.
This invention has relation to clasps used for the purpose of securing and supporting garments, also stockings, and other purposes to which it maybe adapted; and the invention consists in a frame work constructed and adapted to receive a sliding pin or pins, as will be hereinafter described, and subsequent ly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a frame-work, constructed in the form shown, with raised hands a a, for the reception of a double shank-pin, B, through which it is adapted to slide. The frame-work is also made with a depression, I), at its low-er end, upon-which rests the points of the pin, and has an open space, 0, for the ready attachment of the material to the pin. At the upper end of the frame-work is an elongated slot, d, for the purpose of connecting thereto a band, 0, when found necessary.
It is evident that in place of a double shankpin, as shown, a single pin may be used without in the least departing from the principle of my invention.
The manner-of connecting the article of fabric to the clasp is very simple, the pin or pins being first pulled or slid up until the points are raised beyond the open space 0, when the article is placed back of said space, and the pin or pins are brought down and past the article, until the points rest upon the depression I) of the frame-work, thereby making a very secure connection between the article and the clasp.
The clasp may also be used, in many instances, in place of a buckle with the same Security.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An improved clasp, consisting of a suitable i'rame-work, adapted to receive a sliding pin or pins, and formed with a plate at one of its ends, against which the points of said pins bear after being passed through the material, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with a sliding pin or pins, B, of a frame-work, A, constructed with the bands a a, depression I), and open space 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
SIM-0N B. PARKER.
