This invention relates to garnish moldings and more particularly to snap-on garnish I moldings for dobr and window openings and the like. f I s This application is a division of iny copending application Serial Number 357,149. One of the objects of this invention is to provide a garnish molding for association with the lower edge of a. window opening, the body of which is provided with a de ending apron forming a wainscot'or trim stic which constitutes a decorative and attractiveembellish'ment or finish for the interior of the car.
Another object of this invention is to provide a molding for window openings in the form of an integral substantially U-shaped strip adapted for enga ement, preferably snap-on engagement, wit

Another object of the invention is to provide a garnish or-finish molding construction for window openings which is adapted entirely for snap-on engagement with the four edges of the opening, thus eliminatin the necessity for; the use of screws or other visible securing elements.
The several objects, advantages and novel details of construction of this invention will be made more apparent as this descriptlon proceeds, as ecia ly when considered in connection .wit the accompanying drawm s, 85 wherein one illustrative embodiment of-t e invention is shown somewhat in detail.

' Referring now more particularly to the wherein like reference characters fragmentarily a body structure 10 provided with a window opening 11, which window opening is bounded or defined on this application illed March 10,

Associated with the frame member 13 is an g anchorage member or strip 15. In the form shown herein this anchorage strip comprises a body portion 16,
longitu inai edges with a return-bent portion 17 which terminates in an inwardly ex-.
tending flange 13 adapted to rest upon the frame member 13 and constituting one longitudinally extending support engaging portion. The other longitudinal edge of the substantially right angles thereto to provide a downwardly extending flange 19, which also engages the frame member 13 and constitutes the other support en. gaging portion. The flange 19 is inclined inwardly slightly under the body portion. 16 for a purpose to be more frlly hereinafter referred to. The anchorage strip is perforated at suitable spaced points for the reception of securing means 20 which passes therethrough and into the frame member. The body portion 16 of the anchorage strip is ob viously spaced from the frame member 13 by reason of the support engaging portions 18 and 19 and by driving the securing'arms firmly in place and also by reason of the inherent provided along one of its her is provided with areturn-bent portion 24' terminating in-a flange 25 adapted to engage the flange 19- ofthe anchorage strip. Theother longitudinal edge of the garnish molding is provided with a rounded shallow return-bent portion 26 adapted for engagement with the other longitudinal edge of the. anchorage strip. In practice, the free edge of the garnish molding is. first engaged with the flange 19 of the anchorage thereafter,
then the return-bent portion 26 is snapped down over and into. engagement .with the other edge of the anchorage strip. 1
It will be noted that when the body of the garnish molding is snapped into place, the
apron extends over the face'ofthe "frame member. This apron constitutes a decorat1ve walnscot or trlm stick and enchances the attractiveness and finished appearance of theinterior of the vehicle. It will be appreciated that the garnishmolding constitutes a sill member for the window opening which by reason of the. present construction, may be.
secured in place'without the use of visible securing means such as screws or the like.
The remaining three sides of the window opening are provided with an integral finish strip indicated generally by. the reference character 27.. While this finish can obviously be any? preferred or desired cross section in the embodiment herein illustrated, it is iormed substantially of the cross sectional shape illustrated in Figure In this figare, it will be noticed that there is provided an anchorage member '28, which are adapted is substantiall U-shaped in cross section, with the legs of t e U bent outwardly as clearly illustrated. The finish strip 27 is formed with a.
pair of inwardly extending opposed flanges '29 at the longitudinal edges thereof which or snap-on engagement with the anchorage member 28, as. most clearly illustrated in Figure 3. Similar short anchorage members 28 are associated with the vertical-edges of the window opening so that the entire stretch of finish molding, which as shown is substantially U-shape in form,
may be attached by snap-on engagement with the three sides of the window opening. The two ends of the finish strip 27 are shaped as at 30 for a tight snug fit with the adjacent surface of the garnish molding 21.
After the garnish molding 21 at the sill in order to attach the finis molding is i tion corresponding side ofthe window opening has been secured in place as previously ex lained, it is then molding 27 with the remaining three sides of the window opening. After the other two sides of the molding 27 have been snapped into engagement with their anchorage strips, the left hand leg is then snapped into position. In order constructlon because it will be apparent that the ends of the vertical legs of the moldingv 27 bear upon thegarni s h molding 21 to pre vent any displacement of the latter and by reason of the integral U-shape' of the molding-27, this molding when once in place successfully the same.
While the invention has been illustrated and described herein somewhat in detail, it
,wi ll be readily apparent to those skilled in. th s art that various changes in many of the essential and non-essential details of construction may be resorted'to without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention and to this end reservation is made to adapted for snap-on engagement with said anchorage means and extending around three sides of said opening. i
