BEAM SUPPORTING MEANS FOR TEXTILE mcmmEmry Filed yJuly 11, 1929 l quickly placed in the said Patented `uly 14, 1931 UNITED STAT WILLIAM n. BAHANOF GREENVILLE, soUT-II CAROLINA BEAM SUPPORTING ,MEANS Application led J 111`y' 11,
and it is an object of my invention to provide a beam rest or beam lock whichis cai pable of being attached to any of these machines, but is more especially adapted to be attached to afloom into which the beam full of the warp thread is .adapted to be placed, f
yand then the threads` are led from this beam through the loom, andv in the drawings are shown my beam rest or beam lock attached to a loom, that it is capable of being attached to other forms of textile machinery where a beam rest or beam lock is adapted tol be used and is required. l f
An object of my invention is to provide a beam rest or ybeam lock adapted to support 'Y the ends of the beam at the-bearing portion thereof, said beam rest or beam lock being Aso constructed as to permituthebeam t0y be support or vto be quickly removed therefrom, and when placed in positionl to be locked in adjusted `position y while the said beam is being used. v
Another obj ect of my invention is to provide a beam rest or beam lock into which al ybeam for a loom can be quickly placed and l,secured in position, andy from which the beam can be quickly removed when 'the thread r therefrom has been exhausted. j l
Although I have shown only one end of a loom in the drawings, and this end is the end in which the roll of warp is mounted, it
is evident that a similar roll is placed on the other end of the loom onto which the cloth is Wound yafter the `lling has .been placed but I desire it to be understoodv EOE TEXTILE MACHINERY 1929. 'serial No. 377,403.
therein by the shuttle. My invention, therefore is applied alsoto the end of the loom on which the cloth is wound on another beam.
Some of the objects of my invention having been stated other objects will appear as the description proceeds when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, 1n which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of one end of a loomshowing my beam rest attached thereto; L l
Figure 2 is an enlarged view of the beam rest looking from the same position as shown in Figure 1, and showing portions ythereof in dotted lines;
. Figure is an edge vie-w of Figure 2 looking from the left hand side of Figure 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the numeral 1() indicates the frame work of a loom proper, and the numeral 11 indicates the beam which is adapted to be placed into the loom, said beam having the gear 12 thereon, which ris adapted to be driven by the `pinion 18 which is shown in dotted lines together with the take-up mechanism 14; and the dog 15. .These parts are 4conventional in` loom structures, thread 16 passing from the beam over the roller 17 and into the loom.
My beam rest has thefportion 18 which is adapted to be secured to the side of a loom at each end thereof by means of a bolt 19 passing through the slot 20, said slot 20 permitting vertical adjustment of the beam rest to ktake care` of various sizes of, beamsand the gears thereon so as to cause `the gear to mesh with lthe pinion 13. This portion 18 has the bearing` portion 21 and the rest portion. 22, the portion 22 being adapted to receive the journal of the vbeam kbefore the same is placed into the bearing portion, anda'ct as a rest for the beam before it is secured in the beam rest or beam lock. Thisv portion 18 has bosses such as indicated by the reference character 23 tocause the portion 18 to be firmly secured to the end portion of the loom at each side thereof. I have shown only one side of the loom but it is understood that the other side of the loom Will be equipped with a similar device made in a reversed direction. The portion 18 has the projecting portion on Which is pivotally secured the cam 26 by means of the bolt 27 which has the nut 28 thereon, and the lock Washer 29 by means of which the cam 26 can be secured in position to hold the movable portion 31 in position. The member 18 has the projecting portion in which is secured the bolt33 andthe portion 31 has theelongated slot- 34m-to Wllih the bolt 33 is adapted to iit, thus permitting vthe portion 31 to be slid to the dotted line -posi;- tion as shown in Figure'2 when itis desired to remove or install thelbeam *from the beam support bearing 21.
The portion 31 has thelprojeotion vvhieh h as the hollovved out portion on the lower *side thereof l'into ivhih the set scre'W'Bii is adapted to iit,isaid"setscrew3beingthread- I-a'bly secured in the projection 37 extending -iii-din the portion l18 with 'the lock 'nut 39 fthe'reon to 1lock the bo'lt `36 in "adjusted `=p`o Isit-ion to accommodate 'shalf'ts of various sizes.
With the parts in the Aposition shown in Figures 1 and A2"thejournal of thiebeam is held in iposition, but when :it is desired 5to remove the beam from its adjusted position' Tand from thebeamr'est theeam member 26 is lstvi'mg to the dotted 2line fpo'sition shown in Tigiirefandlthe portion 31 :is lthen "lifted up and slid to the dotted line po'stionfas shown 2 `Awith the 2G^droppeddownalso to 'the position shown in Efull 4lines in Figures 1 and2.
