a top plan view of the fixed In the drawings, wherein the details of my invention appear, 10' designates a handle having a head 11 formed with an integral jaw 14 and having a slot 12 formed transversely therethrough one wall of which curves as at 120 while the other wall is inclined as at 166 the'slot 12 having a rearwardly extending counter bore therein. A movable jaw shank is provided and designated 16 and has a vertical slot 18 thru which projects a pin or set screw 21. Instead of a slot 18 a lateral groove shown in Figure 2 may be provided so that a set screw 21 may be tapped thru one of the parallel sides 12a, 12b of the head 11 as will be soon explained. The movable shank 16 a cap 20?) so that the movable jaw 16 may jaw 14 in their ultimate positions. Figure 3 1s a side elevatlon, partly 1n sec- I claim all variations falling within the purview of the appended claim. 7
has an integral jaw 17 thereon provided with teeth 17a and similar teeth 15 are formed on be held against detachment from the head 11; the movable shank also has a lateral toe 19 designed to be shouldered against a counter bore in the shank 11..
In order to operate this alligator wrench the setscrew 21 may be loosenedsoas to. disengage the movable jaw from the slot 12 in the fixed jaw as well as to adjustv the same in position. Itwill also be seenthat the slidable jaw shank 16 engages against the curved edge 120 of the head 11 by shouldering the rear edges of this movable jaw shank against the inclined edge 166 and this will holdboththe movable jaw 17 and fixed 1 B5 Whenthe movable jaw is operated it is wedged against the inclined edge of the bolt and the bolt head 25 rubs against this inclined edge and locks all the parts togetherj lVhat I desire to claim is: 'r
In a tool, in combinationa handle carry-' ing a fixed shank terminating in a forward curved serrated jaw, and having a central vertical slot, said slot 1 having a forward curved edge and a rearward inclined edge, a
movable shank projecting slidably in said slot and rocking adjustably against said curved edge, a serrated curved jaw carried at the forwardend of the movable shank,
the fixed shank and'the movable shank having interengag-eable stops to shoulder the movable shank rigidly when its'j'aw engages work against the fixed jaw, meanslocking the movable shank inadjusted position in said slot, and means carried by said movable shank and engageable withthe fixed shank to prevent the accidental removal of the movable shank from the fixed shank. In witness whereof he has hereunder set his hand this 4th day of December,'1929.
