This invention relates to improvements D ered rolls 81 are freely rotatable on studs in sewing machine drive devices, particularly electric motor installations as applied to individual domestic machines.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a motor so mounted as to be adjustable on the sewing machine stand, relative to its hand wheel, the motor carrying frame being void of fastenings which might mutilate or disfignre the stand.
Another purpose is to produce a driving device in which the motor is directlv apf' plied to the hand Wheel through friction rolls in such manner as to transmit rotary motion in a positive and practical manner.
A further aim is in the provision of a motor drive that can be readily applied to any ordinary type of domestic sewing machine in a simple manner, without tools or mechanical appliances and which is economically manufactured.
These and other like aims and objects are accomplished by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter de scribed and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming an essential part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a side view showing an adaptation of the device illustrated in F igure 2, in which a three point contact is made with the hand-wheel.
Figure 2 is an offset sectional view taken in planes represented by the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring more in detail. to the drawings,
the numeral 20 designates throughout a level stand or table on which the sewing machine body is secured, the same having a horizontal shaft on the extending end of which the hand-wheel 23 is fixed, these parts being conventional in type.
The drawings show a bracket 7 5 having a rubber base 76 but disposed centrally below the axis of the hand-wheel 23.
In the upper portion of this hollow bracket is carried a motor 77 having a vertical shaft 78 having on its extending end a wheel 7 9 provided with a rubber cover or ring 80 adapted to frictionally engage the hand wheel on its outer side.
A pair of angularly disposed rubber cov- 82 arranged radially of-the axis of the handwheel, on the side opposite the driver or ring 80,'these studs having shoulders'83 be-C5 low which are arms 84 having inreaching hubs 85.
Pivot screws 86 pass through the hubs to engage the sides-of themotor casing, allowing the idle rolls 81 toswing towards or Q from the hand-wheel asshown.
The lowerends of the arms 84: are connected by a cross bar 87 having atits center a forked lug 88 through which passes a bolt 89, pivoted at 90 to the bracket and pro-(# vided with an adjusting nut 91 for moving the rolls 81 relative to the driving wheel 79.
It is to be noted that advantage is taken of the weight of the motor and. associated parts to keep the device from shiftingandii'fi .that this effect is greatly enhanced by the rubber edged'base ofthe device, the-same acting to produce a suctional effect in addition; to its non slipping qualities. r

A wheel driving device comprising in combination with a machine wheel, a bracket and a motor, said motorbeing mounted on said bracket, of a shaft for said motor, a friction roll fixed on said shaftato contact the side of the machine wheel, a frame pivot ed to the bracket, a roll revolvably mounted in said frame to cont'act'the opposite side 'of the wheel, and threaded means 'to exert lateral frictional pressure of the rolls against the'sides of therim of the machine wheel and regulate thepressure of both of said rolls. 4. A driving device for machines having a running wheel, comprising in combination with a motor having a shaft, a friction wheel fixed on said shaft, a forked member pivotally connected to the motor, a roll revolvably mounted on said member and re volvable threaded means associated with said member to'exert lateral pressure of the friction wheel and roll against opposite sides of the running Wheel to drive the same. 5. A driving device for machines having a running wheel, comprising in combination with a motor, a friction roll driven by said motor disposed against one side of the running wheel; an idler roll disposed against the opposite side ofthe wheel, a lever pivoted on said motor to carry said idler roll and means to exert pressure on said lever to press'said idler roll and'friction roll against the sides of the running wheel and regulate the pressure to drive the same. A driving device for running wheels, having in combination with a motor, a friction roll driven 'by said motor, a lever, a pivot for the lever on said-motor, a pair of idler rolls carried by said lever, and threaded means associated with said lever tofexert lateral frictional pressure'through; the lever and said rolls against an overrunning wheel to drive the same. j 7. In a driving device for running wheels and the like, comprising in combination with a motor, a friction roll driven by said motor disposed on the side of a running wheel, a forked lever pivoted on said motor, a pair of idlerrolls journalled in the branches ofsaid lever and disposed against the opposite side I of the wheel, and threaded means to exert lateral pressure of the frictionroll and idler rolls against the running wheel.
