Description

COMBINED J. F. BRESLIN. JR 1,806,667
ILLUMINATED SIGN AND WREATH SUPPORT Filed May 13, 1 930 Inventor Allomey Patented May 26, 1931 PATENT OFFICE JOHN F. BRESLIN, JR., OF SUMMIT HILL, PENNSYLVANIA COMBINED ILLUMINATED SIGN AND WREATH SUPPORT Application filed May 13, 1930. Serial No. 452,014.
This invention relates to a combined illuminated sign and support for wreaths, crepes or similar articles of like nature.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character above mentioned in the nature of a sign having such word or words as Bereaved printed or otherwise aifixed thereto and illuminating means associated with the sign, the sign to be used as a support and illuminating device for a wreath, crepe or like symbol displayed in time of bereavement.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character above mentioned which is comparatively simple in construction, inexpensive, thoroughly reliable, practical, pleasing in design and otherwise well adapted to the purpose designed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combined illuminated sign and wreath support,
Figure 2 is a horizontal longitudinal sectional view therethrough,
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view therethrough.
With reference more in detail to the drawings, it will be seen that the combined illuminated sign and wreath support comprises a box or casing open at its bottom and including a rear wall 5, a front wall 7, end walls 6, a top wall 9, and an inclined connecting wall 8. The wall 8 extends upwardly and rearwardly from the front wall 7 to merge with the top wall 9 as clearly suggested in Figure 3.
The connecting wall 8 will serve as suitable means for supporting a wreath or the like on the box in inclined position. The front wall 7 is provided with an elongated opening 16 normally closed through the medium of a transparent panel 17 supported in position on the front wall through the medium of spring clips 18 engaging with the upper and lower edges of the panel 17 1nteriorly of the box or casing. The panel 17 may have suitable indicia thereon, such as for example, the word Bereaved.
Arranged within the box or casing and secured as at 10 to one end wall 6 thereof is a combined socket and switch structure 11 of a well known type. Supported in the socket and controlled by the switch is a suitable electric lamp 12, the lamp 12 being preferably of elongated configuration as to extend longitudinally of the box for illuminating the transparent panel 17.
The rear wall 5 is provided with a suitable opening having a suitable gasket 13 arranged therein. An electric cord 14 leads through the opening and to the lamp and switch socket 11. Obviously one inserting his hand through the open bottom of the box may control the switch for illuminating the sign as desired. The entire device is adapted to be suspended from a suitable support and to this end there is provided a pair of hangers 15-15 suitably secured to the rear Wall 5 inwardly from opposite ends of the box. The upper ends of the hangers extend upwardly above the top 9 and said upper ends are suitably apertured for the receiving of suspension means as for example bolts or other suitable securing elements for retaining the device supported from a wall or the like.
It is thought that from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, a clear understanding of the operation, construction, utility and advantages of an invention of this character will be had by those skilled in the art without a more detailed description.
Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible to certain changes, in size, shape, materials used and it is therefore to be understood that I do not wish to limit myself beyond the spirit of the claims hereunto appended, or the requirements of the prior art.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A combined illuminated sign and support for wreaths and the like, a casing open at its bottom, and including a rear Wall, end walls, a front wall, a top wall and a connecting wall rising upwardly and rearwardly from the front wall and merging into said top wall for supporting an object at an inclined position, said front wall having an opening formed therein, a transparent medium normally closing said opening, and 5 having indicia provided thereon.
2. A combined illuminated sign and sup port for wreaths and the like, a casing open at its bottom, and including a rear wall, end walls, a front wall, a top Wall and a connecting wall rising upwardly and rearwardly from the front wall and merging into said top wall for supporting an object at an inclined position, said front wall having an opening formed therein, a transparent medium normally closing said opening, and having indicia provided thereon, a combined socket and switch mounted in said box, and a lamp supported in said socket and hangers projecting upwardly from said rear wall of the box.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOHN F. BRESLIN, JR.
