CLOTHING RETAINER Filed March 4, 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 /0 Inventor JI. G Foss A tiomey Patented May 19, 1931 UETED ST'iE ALFRED G. ROSS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO CLOTHING RETAINER Application filed March 4,
The present invention relates to a device for preventing embarrassment to women and the prime object of the invention resides in the provision of a device including members adapted to be worn over the buttocks to prevent adherence of the skirt in the interstice when the wearer arises from a sitting or stooping to a standing position.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is suspended from the waist in a comfortable and reliable manner.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, durable, thoroughly convenient in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device embodyingthe features of my invention,
Figure 2 is a rear elevation thereof,
Figure 3 is a top plan view thereof,
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken substantially on the line H of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the belt,
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the arcuate cross members. t
Figure 7 is a perspective view of one end of one of the arcuate cross members.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes a belt made of tape or the like, buckle 6 attached to one end thereof. Tape loops 7 are disposed circumjacent the belt 5 and have depending extensions with buckles 9 attached thereto. Arcuate cross members of comparatively stifl? material are denoted by the numerals 10 and 11.
Strips of tape 12 have ends secured to the ends of the arcuate lower cross member 10 and are trained through slots 14 in the ends 1930. Serial No. 433,068.
of the cross member 11, there being two slots in each end so that the cross member 11 may be adjusted to different positions in respect to the cross member 10.
These strips 12 are adapted to be engaged with the buckles 9. In wearing the device, the belt, of course, is placed about the waist and the strips 12 extend downwardly and rearwardly across the hips so as to support the arcuate cross bar 11 at approximately to the end of the spinal column and the bar 10 is adapted to be disposed at the bottom of the buttocks.
The device may be worn over or under the under clothing as may be desired. This device effectively prevents the clothing from becoming caught and held between the buttocks when a person is seated or stoops. The tape may be made of cotton or other suitable washable material and the cross bars or members 10 and 11 may be made of aluminum or other suitable material having sufficient pliability and of a non-rusting nature.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification 8 since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the sizes, in the materials, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or 99 sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. In a device of the class described, a waist encircling member, a pair of flexible strips, means connectin one end of said strips with said waist encircling member, an arcuate flexible member secured at its ends to said strips remote from the first mentioned ends of the strips, and a second arcustrips of tape at one end of the letter from, v the sides of the belt, an arcuate cross memher having its ends attached tothe free ends I i of the strips of tape, and a second arcua te ate melnber her ing ends adjustabiy en:
gziged With said strips intermediatesaid first 7 mentioned arcuat-e member and said waist encircling member. 7
2. In a device of the class described, a belt, stripsof tz'tpe,n1eans for suspending said cross member having itsends adjust/ably secured to? said strips'of tape.
V In testimony whereof I aflix my signeture.
