This invention relates to electrical terminals, and more particularly to an electric connecting lug to be secured to a metal conducting strip such as is used in a ound clamp, a battery terminal, a radio lea -m, or
I the like.
One object of this invention is to provide 1 an electric conducting lug of the above nature having a tubular split screw section for resiliently clamping upon a conductor-engaging set screw.
A further object is to provide an electric conducting lug of the above nature having a pair of side flanges and a central tubular eyelet adapted to be swaged down upon the conducting strip.
A further object is to provide a connecting lug of the above nature in which the tubular screw section is provided with a transverse convex rib.
A further object is to provide a device of the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, compact, ornamental in a pearance, and very eflicient and durable in use.
With these and other objects in view there has been illustrated on the accompanying drawings one form in which the invention may be conveniently embodied in practice.
Fig. 1 represents a view in separated relation of the end of the conducting strip, the electrical connecting lug, and the conductorclamping set-screw.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the conducting strip and connecting lug in assembled position.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the assembled conducting strip, connecting lug, and set-screw as they appear when the conductor wire 1s clamped therein.
Referring now to the drawings in wh ch like reference numerals denote corresponding parts throu bout the several views, the numeral in icates a flat metallic conducting strip having a slightly rounded and 11 adj acent to which is a circular a erture 12 for a purpose to be hereinafter diescribed. The strip 10 is adapted to be rigidly securedin flat contact with the base section 13 of a T- sgaped connector lug generally indicated by The .top section or base of the T-shaped lug 14 is provided at its center with an upstanding tubular rivet or eyelet 15 adapted to be inserted through the aperture 12 in the conductor strip 10 and then to be swaged down upon the surface of said strip 10 to form an annular rim 16, as clearly shown in Figs. 2and 3. The sides of the base 13 of the T-shaped lug 14 are provided with a air of upstanding flanges 17 adapted to be bent down into flat contact with the conductor strip 10, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
When assembling the conducting strip 10 and the lug 14, it will be found desirable to swage down the corners 18 and 19 thereof, upon the inclined curved side edges 20 and 21 of the base 13, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, thereby greatly strengthening the construction. The T-shaped base 13 of the lug 14 has a depending split screw section 22, preferably formed by bending up from a flat metal blank with its edges abutting at the line 23. The split screw section 13 is threaded interiorly at 24 to tightly and resiliently clamp about a set-screw 25, the threaded end 26 of which is of slightly larger diameter than the interior of the threaded screw section 24. The set-screw is provided with the usual stop flange 27 and finger gripping section 28, whereby the threaded end 26 thereof may be driven tightly against an electrical conducting wire 29 so as to make a good electrical contact therewith.
In order to strengthen the construction of the screw section 22, provision is made of a convex transverse rib 30 located intermediate the end of said screw section and a pair of apertures 31 are provided for receiving the conductor wire 29 While there has been disclosed in this specification one form in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that this form is shown for the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosure but may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departin from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments coming within the scope of the following claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, and for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent, is:
1 In an electrical connecting member, a base section having a tubular rlvet extendlng upwardly therefrom adapted to be inserted into and swaged down upon an apertured conducting strip, a screw section having an aperture for receiving a conductor at right angles thereto, and a set-screw fitted into said screw section for tightly clamping said conductor, said screw section being split and being slightly smaller than said set-screw so as to resiliently clamp thereupon and prevent loosening thereof.
2. In an electrical connecting member, a base section having a tubular rivet extending upwardly therefrom adapted to be inserted into and swaged down upon an apertured conducting strip, a screw section having an aperture for receiving a conductor at right angles thereto, and a set-screw fitted into said screw section for tightly clamping said conductor, said screw section having a transverse strengthening rib intermediate its ends.
3. In an electrical connecting member, a
base section having a tubular rivet extending upwardly therefrom adapted to be inserted into and swaged down upon an aper tured conducting strip, a screw section having ail-aperture for receiving a conductor at right angles thereto, and a set-screw fitted into said screw section for tightly clamping said conductor, said screw section having a transverse convex strengthening rib intermediate its ends.
4. In an electrical connecting member, a base section having a tubular rivet extending upwardlv therefrom adapted to be inserted into and swaged down upon an apertured conducting strip, a screw section having a transverse aperture for receiving a conductor at right angles thereto, and a set-screw fitted into said screw section for tightly clamping said conductor. 7
5. In an electrical conductor, a conducting strip having an aperture, a T-shaped terminal lug having an eyelet in its upper end passing through said aperture and swaged down upon said strip, said str1p having its {corner swaged down around the upper end
