This inventionrelates to improvements in grinding mills or machines particularly adapted for grinding corn, oats, barley, rye, wheat, and other grains of a similar nature.
A-prime object of this invention is to provide a vertically arranged grinding machine having an outer corrugated shell revolving in opposite direction to a cooperating cone shaped corrugated surface within the shell, thereby greatly increasing the grinding capacity in the machine and reducing the power consumption considerably. The grinding machine according to this invention is not intended primarily as a milling device for reducing to a fine degree, as required in flour and cereal milling, but is constructed principall for the purpose of heavy duty fee-d grin ing and will reduce or grind whole corn, including corn on the cob after it has gone through a corn crusher, into feed for cattle, horses and hogs.
Another object of this invention is to provide a grinding machine consisting of a minimum number of parts, simple and inexpensive of construction and which includes a complete unit or grinding device in itself, having corrugated grinding plates or mantels, arranged to be easily removed for recorrugating or repairs without in any manner disturbing the supporting members, the machine being also provided with a feeder member as well as a distributor, thereby assuring an even stream of grain to the grinding chambers.
A further object of this invention is to provide a complete grinding machine for grains including feeder and distributing members, the grinding elements comprising an outer shell, adjustably and rotatably mounted in the machine, and an inner cone-shaped member adapted to revolve in opposite direction to the shell, both the shell and cone shaped member being adjustable in relationship to each other.
Other objects of this invention will appear from the following detailed description of the device and as disclosed in the three sheets of drawings which are herewith made a part of this application.

The grinding machine according to this invention includes a supporting structure ionsisting of side members 1 and 2, made of any suitable material, and adapted to have securely fastened thereto by means of bolts 3 and 4:. suitably formed guiding and supporting brackets 5 and 6, which may be made of any proper material, such as sheet iron or r otherwise.

In this construction it is readily apparent that the plate 5 functions in part as a bottom plate member for the shell 23, the lower edge of the shell being suitably located in relationship to the plate member 5 in order to allow for the desired sideway adj ustability of the shell 23, it being understood in this respect that the sideway adjustability is intended to keep shell 23 in perfect alignment with cone member 52.
In order to provide means for giving upward and downward motion to the shaft 38 and incidentally to the truncated cone member 52, it is preferred that the rod element 40 be mounted at each end in adjustable elements 66 and 67, which are arranged to receive in secured relationship therein manually operated rod members 68 and 69, provided at the lower ends with gears 70 and 71, securely keyed thereto and adapted to mesh with and cooperate with gear members 72 and 7 3, keyed to shaft 7 4, which is mounted in the supporting members 1 and 2, as disclosed at 7 5 and 7 6.
The upper ends of the rods 68 and 69 may be provided with hand wheels .77 and 78. Suitable bracket journal elements 7 9, 80, 81 and 82 are securely fastened to the frame members 1 and 2 for the purpose of maintaining the rods 68 and 69 in rotative position. By turning the wheels 77 and 78, it is apparent that the threaded portions 83 and 84 on the rods 68 and 69 will cause the rod 40 to move upward or downward as desired, thereby functioning to provide the required adjustability in the position of the corrugated plate 53, the set screws 25 and 25 also functioning to produce cooperating adjustability in order to obtain the most efficient spacing and alignment between the two corrugated surfaces 27 and 53,.
V The rod 40 is securely mounted thereon adjacent the frame supports 1 and 2. Guiding members 85 and 86 adapted to cooperate in slidable relationship with guiding rail members 87 and 88 are attached to the frame supports 1 and 2, thereby providing efficient means for positively guiding the rod 40 and the shaft 38 in its upward and downward movement whenever the hand wheels 77 and T8 are revolved.
