Description
Patented Jan. 13, 1931k PAUL BELLAVANCE, OF .ATTLEBORO, -MASSACHUSETTS PANY, OF-EIROVIDENCE ISLAND; A .CORPORATION .OIEillvHODllKZISLATIDV cHAIiv ff. to provide an easily assembled chain which will be durable in construction, and which will have the so-called basket Weave appearance.
A further object of the invention is topre- '10 vent lateral movement of the assembled secf nsY tion on the connector member without the use of solder or additional Vparts.
i lVith these and other objects andadvantageous features in'view, the invention consists of a novel arrangement of parts more fully disclosed in the detailed description following, in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, and more particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawings: Y
Fig. l is a top plan view of the section of chain constructed in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is a bottom View thereof with the frame-shaped members shown in dotted lines;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the frame members;
Fig. 4 is a sections;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the section shown in Figure 4 as folded into linished position; p
Fig. 6 is a perspective view ofl a blank which may be used as a connector sectionif desired7 by being folded vas illustrated in Figure 5;
Fig. 7 is a perspective view showing one portion of one of the sections as folded about the frame member and the other portion as opened out;
Fig. 8 is a perspective view illustrating the manner of assembling the parts;
Fig. 9 is a perspective view showing some of the parts assembled and others in.the process of being assembled. Y
It is found desirable to form band chains without the use of solder with links or sections having a staggered parallel relation-` ship which is conveniently referred to in the trade as a basket weave appearance; and
Viny order to accomplish 'this result,' liave proplislie'dt" Y f z A. i llVith: referenceto the drawings', lO'designates i' the fra-'me member or llink liavingfan perspective view of one of the turned inwardly, as shown' in F 'iff-flieht videdfa frame link vand wrapped about 'the 'lateral edges of 'sucha linkfsheetlmetal tions with theirjedgfes notched' and iintur'ned so that the cuty out or notched portion will i' receive the longitudinallyfextend'ing Vportion of the/framej'member-[fand prevent' lateral Yniove'i'nent: 'n either 'direction' of this" section upon the member; which locking also' serves the further'function of securingtlie connecting links and other sections which are`vl intermediate'the endls'ectlon's ofthe frameflink Vfrom disengagement therefrom and holding vthe entire construction 1n assembled' relation;
Yand` 'the following is a ,detailedv description of the present embodiment of this invention il`- lustrating the preferred ,means by fgwliich these advantageous results may" be p' accom:-
'opening l1` therein, leaving portions A12 ex- 'tending laterally .of the chain and a ypunition 'T13 lextending longitudinally thereof.` `'lvhis frame member Yis split as A'atlvfor conveiiience inv threading the sections thereon', as
A Section-.1 5 is Yfolded inte band :ferm with its'V `meetingv edges 16 notched 'as at 17 j and i igure 5. lThis sliapedlsectionV positioned uponlthe lateral edgeY Of .the iframe member. 10, lasshownginFigure@ withits notchl 17 11e- 'ceiving :the longitudinally extending Iportion lofgthis member, wherebyzthe sectionv will be: prevented frommovement in either direcvtion laterally of the bracelet, ,v

Aillii'stifal'ted 'in'A Figure' 9, Jetcg until the yfinal or'malrginalr edge SeCtionlQ is l"positioned so Assienoit To v-Lonrsism'naiv coM- tions are'threadedthrough .the split 14.? one 4,overeach ofsthe laterallyiextending portions l that thenotch `17fvvill engage'the longitudinal portion 13 at the split endof the frame meinber, as is shown in Figure 9. f I have described the above chain as though formed from sections all of Which are pro-- vided With notches 17 in their ends,but it Will be apparent that only the band sections which embrace the lateral edges of the frame mem'- ber need be notched as the notches `in the other sections serve no purpose I mayg'therelustrated in Figure 6, Which is folded in the same form as shown in Figure 5 for these sections intermediate the two lateral edge sections of the connecting member.
i. The split 14 allows the portions 1Q of the frame member kto be moved out ot the plane one with the'other to permit the sections to be threadedover these portions l2.r f
It will be apparent that links may be connected andthe chain. built upvby suitably threading the laterallyv` extendingv portions l2 in one link throughthe sections of the next Y or in other convenientv manner until the chain of the desired length is produced.
While Ifliave described certain construction forms which embody the principles of my invention, it is obvious that other desired changes in arrangement may be made iwithin `the spirit and the scope of the invent-ion as defined inthe appended claims.
IV claim:
