Jan. 6, 1931. M. LuBlcH ADJUSTABLE VEGGIFRIRIC Filed oct. 2s". 1929 Patented Jan. 6, Y1931 UNIT-513D STATES MAX LUBICH, or EBnnsBAcH, GERMANY, Ass'renonjronmnn may; L, SCHULER Ana, 0F.
GOPPINGEN, WURTTEMnERQeERMANY y ADJUSTABLE Eccnnrn'rc l Applicationled October 23, 1929, Serial No.
My invention relates to adjustable Veccentrics as described in my Patent No. 1,7 33,162. It is an object of mykinvention to improve the means described` in the said patent, par
5` ticularly with a view to rendering it suitable for eccentric presses having a plurality of uprights. Y
` The means described in my said patent, comprises a key which is inserted at one'side of the clutch member which is adapted to be shifted. This one-sidedness may cause jamming. In a press having a single upright f only the member is freely accessible from the front end of the shaft so that it cany readily be handled in case of'jamming but in aV press having a plurality ofy uprights such n handling would be interfered with by one of the uprights. Therefore, I so design my novel means that it is not subject toy jamming.
To this end, instead of a single onesided key, I provide two keys arranged diametrally opposite each other in the coupling' member and connect the two keys by a pin i which extends eccentrically to the axis of the two keys and is connected with the shaft by means of a guide extending at right angles to the axis of the sha-ft, the guide being so designed as to effect a positive connection of the shaft and theclutch member in axial direction but providing a clearance for the pin at right angles to the axis, so as not to interfere with its rotation.
By these means the one-sided key according to my said patent is duplicated, onesided action and jamming are eliminated, and handling of theV Coupling member is not required. p
My novel arrangement involves the fur- .40 ther advantage that it is more simple andV more readily surveyed than'my said prior means, andin particular thespring-controlled shifting member of the prior device is eliminated.
Suitable means, for instance, a set screw, are preferably provided for holding the two keys in position.
In the drawings affixed tohthis specifica- 59 tion and. forming part thereof means 'emmember Vis kheld against rotation.

Fig. l is an eleva-tion showing the eccen-- trici andthe clutch `members on the shaft of Fig. 2 is an end elevationA of Fig. 1,'viewed# from the left and partly broken awayso as. to show sections in the `axis' lof the keys and invthe'zaxis of the eccentricpin connecting them, and n y Figi?) is a section on the line 3`-3 in Fig. 2,.,dra-wn'to aflarger; scale.
1 Referring nowto the drawings a is a jour-i -nal on the shaft of :an eccentric press, b is the eccentric whichzis `free to rotate about the. journal a, c are teeth at one: end of the eccen` tric,e=is the mating clutch member,- ande. are teeth on the'end vof theL second member which-are Yadapted to mesh with the teethV c of theiecce'ntricb.k d is an extensionofthe. shafthaving two pa-rallelffaces' aswill appear from Fig.l 2,v on which the member e is'V fitted to slidebut to partake inthe rotation of the shaft La Instead of being secured on: a block having parallel faces, as shown, the member might beheld againstrotationon a cylindricalpa'rt'of the shaft by means of splines; or the like. Itwill be understood that when/the teeth c, c are lin mesh, the rotation' of the rshaft isf transmittedto the eccentric b. p l f l f and'f are keys which are fitted to rotate in radialco-axi'al'bores of the member e at opposite sides of the fiaty faces by which the r is a pin arrangedeccentrically with respect to the two keysff, If in'abore g of the block d yin which the'pin fr is free to rotate about the axis of the two keys f, f. t are sleev'eswhich are fitted at the ends. of the bore g andy provided with slots g which fit the pin 11 closely in the axial direction of the system but permit it to move in the sleeves, at right anglesto` this direction. s isla slot in one of the keys, inthepresent instance, the key f, for the insertion of a screw driver or the like, and u is a set screw engaging the key f.
If it is desired to vary the relative position. of the member e and the eccentric b, the
sov
screw u is unscrewed, a suitable tool is inserted in the slot of the key f and the keys f, f are rotated together, the rotation of the key f being transmitted to the opposite key f through the medium of the pin 7' which is free to move in the sleeves t-at right angles 1 to the axis 'of the systenn-but is positively connected with the sleeves in axial directiony so that it displaces `the member e axiallyl and moves'its teeth c `out ofmesh with the 4teeth j oV of the eccentric b. Thefeccentrieis now f adjusted, the key f is rotated in opposite direction so as to return the teeth c', 0' into meshing relation, and the screw u is reset.
I wi-sh it to'be understood that I do not desire' to be limited tothe exact detailsv of construction shown andr described, for ob vious modifications will occurto a. person skilled in the art'. f Y Y "In theclaims vaiixedvto this no selection of any particularvmodification of the invention is intended to the exclusion of othermodications thereof and` the right e to subsequently make claim to any modification not covered-by these claims is expressly reserved.
I claim:
l. Means for coupling a shaft or journal v having a transverse hole with'a member surroundingv same havingfclutching means on said member, comprising a mating clutch member having a radial bore held. against rotation with respect to said shaft but adapted to' be displaced axially-thereon, a pair of keys fitted to rotate in the opposite ends of saidV radial bore in said mating member, an
eccentric pin extending freely through saidv hole in said shaft or journal from one Ykey to the other, and a guide in said hole which is engaged positively by said' eccentric pin in the direction of the aXis'of said shaft or journal but isprovided with a clearance for said pin at right angles to said shaft.
2. Means for coupling a shaft or journal with a member surrounding same having clutching means on said member, and comprising an extension on said shaft having a transverse bore, a mating clutch member having Va radial bore. non-rotatably but slidably mounted on' said-extension, a pair of keys fitted to rotate inthe opposite ends of said radial borein said mating member, an eccentric pin extending freely through said hole in said extension from one key to the other, and a guide in said hole which is engagedpositive- 1y by said eccentric pin in the direction of the axis of said shaft or journal but is provided with a clearance for said pin at righ angles to said shaft.
