Description

F. WILLMAN.
COMPENSATING-PENDULUM. No. 178.695. Patented June 13, 1876.
N-rETERs, PHOTOilTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D C.
To all whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRITZ WILLMAN, OF LA SALLE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMPENSATING-PENDULUMS.
M Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 78,695, dated June 1 1876; application file May 9, 1876.
Be it known that I, FRITZ WILLMAN', of La Salle, La Salle county, Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Expansion-Pendulum, of which the following is a specification:
The pendulum-ball is suspended by two rods of metal of different powers of expansion and contraction and a lever, the lever being fixed in the rod of least expansion for a ful- .crum, and having the more expansible rod connected to one end, and the ball to the other end, so that when the rods expand the bail will be raised, and it will be lowered when they contract. The amount of variation or compensation is varied by shifting the lever along the rod in which it is suspended, so as to vary the length of the lever.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved pendulum. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation taken on the linear; as, Fig. 1.
A represents the rod of least expansionsay, steel; 13, the more expanding ouesay,
' zinc. O is the compensating-lever; D, the
ball of the pendulum, and E a out for adjusting the lever, said nut being fitted in the end of rod A, and the lever passing through it, so that by turning the nut forward and backward the rod will be shifted lengthwise to vary the length of the arms, to one of which the pendulum is suspended, and to the other the rod 13 is connected. 7
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new-and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of rods A B, of different powers of expansion, lever O, and the pendulum-ball D, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of adjusting-nut E and lever O, rods A and B, and the pendulum ball D, substantially as specified.
. FRITZ WILLMAN.
