Description

Dec. 30, 1930. L.. o. B. LINDsTRoM ET AL ELECTRIC PRUNING DEVICE Filed Aug. 12, 1929'l Patented Dec. 30, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE:
LINN OLAF B. LINDSTROM AND DAVID G. SALA, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA ELECTRIC PRUN IN G DEVICE Application led August 12, 1929. Serial No. 385,371.
This invention relates to an electrically driven pruning and trimming device Vin which an electric solenoid operates acutter; and the object of the invention is to make use of electric power in pruning and trimming trees, shrubs, vines, hedges and other forms of vegetation. v
One form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure lis a side view of the complete device showing the cutter face.` Figure 2 is a front view of the entire device with exception of lower pipe connection which has been cut oli to allow drawing space for Figure 3; Figure 3 is a detail of the moving cutter guide looking i up from the bottom on the section A-A.`
The solenoid 1, with its holdinglanges 2-2 is'rsecured to the supporting frame 3. The lower cutter 4 may be secured to the 2o frame 3, where the latter makes a right angle turn to meet the plane of the cutter, in a Hush lap joint, with the machine screws 5--5. The lower end of the frame 3 is flared vout to a threaded pipe connection 6 to which may be threaded a short or long handle for operation. The electrical conductor cable 7 may lead down through this pipe section and terminate in a plug connection 8, for connecting to an electrical cord leading to a switch.
The moving cutter 9 may be secured to the operating stem 10 by means of the lmachine screws 1111 in a flush lap joint. The spiral spring 12 around the stem10 returns the top cutter to the normally open position, by act` ing between the top solenoid flange 2, and the collar 13 on the stem 10.
The solenoid plunger or armature 14 may said frame, a detachable cutter blade secured to said frame, a vertically reciprocable operating stem coupled to the solenoid plunger and passing through a guide on the blade secured to the frame, a detachable cutter blade secured tosaid operating stem, and a spiral spring surrounding said operating stem between the top'of the solenoid and the stationary blade secured to said'frame, to hold the blades in an open position. 60

be pivoted to the stem 10 by the pin 15. Thus,
when the solenoid is energized, the plungery v 40 14 pulls down the stem 10 with the top cutter v 9 against the spring 12, to the lower cutter 4. The stem 10 slides in the guide 16 which may be secured to the lower cutter 4 bymeans of Y i the screws 17-17. i
We claim:`
In an electric pruning device, the combination of an electric solenoid and pruning cutters comprising a supporting frame flared out to a hollow threaded pipe connection to admit 5c the electrical conductor, a solenoid secured toA 'i Y
