IILDBID C. Tm Q1 IINI I'EAIO LI S, MINNESOTA rno'rnoroa Application filed my 14, 1928. Serial no. 292,807. v
This invention relates a breast protector or breast covering tobe worn by girls' and women. The present day tendency is for women, esp'eciall the younger-women s and girls, to wear ew clothes, especially in: the summertime. Thebrassiere or bandeaux commonly worn over the breasts is a considered unnecessarily bulky by many girls who desire a lighter breast covering. 10 It is desirable to have some coverin over the breasts when.wearing thin or tig t fit- 1 breasts are not greatly 'develo d do not need any support therefor, an it is only necessary to ave some means for rendering the nipple less prominent and conspicuous. It is an object of this invention, therefore, 29 to rovide abreast cove or protectorwhich will to a great extent scure the nipple so that the same will not be unduly noticeable when a dress or sweater is worn.
It is another object of the invention to 23 provide a breast covering comprising a small piece of fabric simulating a-dress fabric on one side and having a waterproof surface on the other, the same being rovided with adhesive to hold the same in p ace. These and other objlfts and advantages of the invention will fully set forth in the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters refer to. similar parts throughout the several views and in which r V 1 is a diagrammatic view of a bust, showing the inventionin place Fi 2 is-a' horizontalsection on line 2+2 of Fig. 1;
' Fig. 3 is Fig. 4 is an edge view of the device. Be erring to the drawings, the device com prises a piece of material 10. While this ma- 4 terial might be made of.various shapes, in
a plan view ,of the device; and w the embodiment of the invention illustrated it is'shown as'substantially elliptical in shape and this forinhas proventor'be very in" practice. The outersurface 10a of firic-is preferably of silk or satin weave,
clothes, so that the mpples of the breast not project unduly,and be too promi-' nent or unsightly. Women and girls whose simulating goods. .The inner surface- 10b is preferably water-proof and this surface can be made ,by providing a layer of water-proof material such as very thin rubber or as illustrated, by having a rubberized surface on the fabric. 'Such rubberized silk or rubberized fabric is nowa commercial article. The surface 10b is therefore waterproof. At each end of the device a'layer of adhesive 11 is provided, which, as illustratfabric. V
In operation the waterproof surface 101) is placed a ainst the nipple 12 of the breast,
nip le with'the lon dimension horizontally, an the same is t en pressed against the breast and the adhesive portion llpressed firmly in contact therewith. This adhesive is of the character commonly used with aded, is of segmental shape at the end of the the device heing positioned centrally of the hesive surgical tape and adheres quickly anil securely to the skin. The device is then in position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and the nipple of the breast cannot project unduly. .The dress or other garment-ofthe wearer will be directly in contact with the surface 10a and this surface or the fabric forming the same is preferably made flesh colored so the device will not be greatly noticeable.
With the device in the position shown, a dress or. sweater ma be worn and thebreast nippleswill not un uly project against the same so as tobe objectionable in appearance. A comparatively smooth surface .is formed over the breasts by the device against which the garment engages. The device can be removed when desired, by simply'takeasil ing hold of it and pulling the same from the skin, the adhesive 11 readily separatingfrom the skin. The device is not uncomfortable and the same will usuallybe worn until it is desirable to remove the same on account of soiling. The device is conveniently' arranged for marketing by merely placinga vpiece of paper, preferablyg assine, over the'side having the adhesive thereon. Wheirthe device is to be used, this paper is moved'from the adhesive and the device canthen .be applied to the breasts. By lifting the breast somewhat before the device is applied, the breast will be supported to a certain extent. One side of the device being waterproof, will prevent an moisture passing through the same to the abric side, so that no moisture can get onto the dress or other garment worn over the device.
From the above descriptionit is seen that applicant has provided a very simple and ef ficient breast covering. The same is easily made and may be inexpensively produced, and thus sold at a very reasonable price. The device is easily and quickly placed in osition for use. The small amount of a hesive used on the device eliminates any unhealthful action. It has become the practice of some girls to simply cut up adhesive tapeand place the same over the breasts- The entire surface of this tape is coveredwith adhesive, however, and it has been found that the same is injurious when covering such a large area and extending over the nipples. With the present invention very little of the skin surface is engaged by the adhesive and there is no coverlng directly over the nipples closing the same or preventing circulation of air. The device can thus be worn without any injurious effects. The device has.been amply demonstrated in practice, found to be very successful, and is being commercially made.
It will, of course, beunderstood that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the parts, Without departing from the scope of applicants invention, whicn, generally stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth, in the novel parts and combinations of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.
What is claimed is 1. A breast covering comprising an elongated piece of thin fabric having at least one side thereof waterroofed, the waterproofed side of the fa ric being inward and having adhesive at the end portions thereof adapted to engage the breasts at'either side of the nipple and hold the device in place.-
2. A breast covering comprising a thin fabric sheet of general oblong shape and adapted to extend over the nipple of the breast and portions at opposite sides thereof,
adhesive material only adjacent the ends of said sheet for engaging the skin at each side of the nipple to hold the device in place, the portion over the nipple bein free of adhesive and adapted to-hold the end of the nipple in the line of a circle touching the breast at each side thereof,
In testimony whereof I afiix my si nature.
