IMPROVEMENT IN REED-ORGAN STOP-ACTIONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,997, datedMay 30, .1876; application filed September 28, 1875.
I town, in the county of Lehigh and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stops for Reed-Organs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,'c1ear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usethc same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. A
My invention relates to stop mechanism of a reed-organ, and more especially to the construction and arrangement of the attachments .for working'a rack or series of rods, and to a notched bar and other new devices or combinations for operating the stops and the swells, all of which will be understood by those skilled in regard to reed-organs by reading the following description or specification but it will not be necessary to go into any general description of reed-organs, or the mode of operating the same.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top view of part of a reed-organ, showing the stops and my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a top view of the parts below the stops, which have been removed. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the rack employed in working the stops by means of the attachments on the top of the rack. Fig. 4 is a detached view of one of the stops, and Fig. 5 is a detached view of one of the rack-rods.
My improvements may be applied to reedorgans-having any number of stops from one to twenty-four, or more, if desired; but in the accompanying drawings I have shown only eight stops, which are enough to illustrate the principles of my improvements.
i My invention consists of cam-shaped adjust ;able attachments to the rods for operating the Zstops of a reed-organ, and in other improve- {ments, which will be fully understood by the following description: u In the accompanying drawings, N represents the stopm, which may be operated singly or in sets,or all at once, by means of my improvement. Between the stop-draws N, Figs. l and 2, are placed the rods (3, forminga rack. (Shown best in Fig, 3.) These rods are provided with cranks outheir-lower ends for operating theswells. For example, the single stop-draw N, when pulled, will open the top'swell E. This same swell is opened when all the stop-draws are simultaneously pulled.- A series of adjustable attachments,
A, crown the rods 0. These attachments are cam-shaped, and may be moved simultaneously by means of the notched slide D, Fig. 2, connected therewith. A rod, I, in front of the organ, is attached to the double elbow lever G, which, in turn, is attached to the notched slide D. This rod is bent down at the end, so the operator may pull the rod by his knee, and thus operate the slide and attachments A, and also the swell-valve. Each stop-draw or handle N is provided with a check-stud, O, to prevent the stop-draw from being pulled out too far; and the stop-draws are provided with wedges or cams B, which work against the attachments A, so that when the slide D is pulled the attachments A are turned round, as indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 2, and thus the stop-valves are moved out.
Having described my invention, I claim- 1. The adjustable cam attachment A, in combination with the rack-rod O and the stop' draw-handle N, provided'with the wedge or cam B, constructed and arranged substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
2. The notched slide D, in combination with the rack or series of rods 0 and the adjustable cam attachments A, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own-I aifix my signature in presence-of two witnesses. a
JOHN FLOREY. Witnesses:
