This invention relates to an improvement in markers for use in flower beds, etc., to identify the plants therein.

The main object of this invention is to produce, at a low cost for manufacture, a

simple and attractive plant-marker constructed with particular reference to the exclusion of moisture and to permitting the convenient reading of the identifying matter therein.

With the above and other objects in view as will appear from the following, my invention consists in a plant-marker characterized by its provision with an inverted cup-shaped head; a standard having its upper end entered into and secured to the said cup-shaped head; a transparent closure upon the outer face of the said head; and a retaining-ring engaged with the edge of the said closure for retaining the same in place and formed with a skirt sleeved over the skirt-portion of the said head.

My invention further consists in a plant-' marker characterized as above and having certain other details of construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims' In the accompanying drawings:

In the embodiment of my invention herein chosen for illustration, I employ an inverted cup-shaped sheet-metal head 10 consisting of a flat topf-wall 11 and a depending annular 1930. Serial No. 444,640.

The said head receives the upper end of a tapered sheet-metal stake or standard 13 of V-shaped form in crosssection and having its upper end sloped and turned outward to form attaching-cars 14 which are preferably soldered, as shown, to the under face of the top-wall 11 of the head, the skirt of which serves to conceal the said ears.

Resting upon the top-wall 11 of the head 10 is a disk-shaped label 15 of paper or other suitable material upon which may be marked suitable information regarding the particular plant adjacent which my improved marker is mounted. It will be readily seen that the upper surface of the top-wall 11 of the said head may itself serve as a label.

Resting upon the top of the label 15 is a transparent lens 16 preferably of glass and of piano-convex form to serve as a magnifying means for the inscription upon the dis label 15.

For the purpose of retaining the transparent lens 16 in place upon the head 10, I employ a retaining-ring 17 consisting of a threaded-skirt 18, threaded over the threaded-skirt 12 of the said head 10, and an inwardly-turned annular flange 19 engaging the edge of the upper surface of the lens 16.

As thus constructed, my improved-marker will effectively exclude moisture from penetrating betwen the lens and head, since any rain falling upon the upper face of the marker will drip off of the skirt 18 of the retaining-ring 17 instead of penetrating between the skirt 18 and the skirt 12 of the head 10.

It will be understood by those skilled in the art that my invention may assume varied physical forms without departing from my lnventive concept and I, therefore, do not limit in self to the specific embodiment herein ciiosen for illustration, but only as indicated in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a plant-marker comprising an inverted cupshaped head; a standard having its upper end entered into and secured to the said cupshaped head; a transparent closure upon the outer face of the said head;'and a retainingring engaged with the edge of the said closure for retaining the same in place and formed with a skirt sleeved over the skirt-portion of the said cup-shaped head.

As a new article of manufacture, a plant-marker comprisin an inverted cupshaped head having its epending skirt provided with screw-threads; a standard having its upper end entered into and secured to the said cup-shaped head; a transparent closure upon the outer face of the said head; and a retaining-ring engaged with the edge of the said closure for retaining the same in place and formed with a threaded skirt Engaged with the threaded skirt of the said In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
