Description

Sept. 23, 1930. c. M. COBB POWDER DISTRIBUTOR Filed March 12, 1928 Inventor; Caro/us M Cobb. QVWM Patented Sept. 23, 1930 i cAItoLrrs moors, or LYNmMA-ssiaoHusnfr'rs POWDER nrsrnnsu'ron v V The invention relates to powderdistributors of the type having a suitable container for holding the powder supplyi which is provided with a customary neck opening and cap held together by screw threads.
Thefinventionconsists of a powder distrib- ,utor having suitable novel devices for pre-.
paring or breaking up the powder into its finest, particles and then discharging them 1 in-suitable quantities as desired. To accomplish this, pressure suction and discharge pipes are provided bothof which are rigidly :secured to the cap. and extend in both directionsito meet the demands. The outer end of the pressure suctionpipe is fastened to a pressure bulb and the opposite end extends j downwardly into the container within a working range of the powder supply. The outer endof thedischargepipe serves'as a nozzle to deliver'the powder and the opposite end inside the container is turned up sufiiciently I Y 1 l-to provide an indirect-flow of powder in the path of the powder stream to obtain the desired density and quantity of powder and I also to prevent it from spilling if the container takes an inverted position. The flow of powder is determined approximately by the size of the opening'in the discharge pipe and the 'rate of pressure used to force the 39 powder against the atmosphere at the discharge end. ,VVhen thepressure bulb ex- 'pands, it'draws in air from the" outside of I the'container through thedischarge pipe and thence to the pressure bulb throughthe pres v -suresuctionpipe, 'IThe drawing in of the V'airtends to clean all the pipes ofpowder p'reypar'ator'y for the next-discharging operation.

It r i also prevents powder from spilling out of the discharge pipe if the container was turned upside down. There are many ways of pro vidmg an ind rect flow entrance of a d1scharge pipe and in addition to the one shown 9 in Figures 1 and 3 is a modified construction shown in Figure 1, consisting of the pipe 16 which is pluggedat 24 and a hole 25 machined I a I a in the side of the pipe as indicated on the drawing. I i The device can be used as shown in Figures land 3 or it'can be enclosed in any suitable casinglor bag. I have shown the distribu-' V V tor in a bag 26, Figure 2, made of any. suitv a m ablematerial such as cloth or leather. 7 In operationthe powder distributor ha'sa" Y container 10 for holding the powder supply 11. Working in conjunction with these elei ments is a cap 14 having a pressuresuction f 'pipe and a powder discharging pipe. -The 1 b'ulb19 i's; connected to the pressure suction pipe 18, and is constructed without valves so that air orf any fluid when drawn in,".is I forced to-enterthrough the discharge pipe 2'0? 16', causing the air to besaturated with powder to helpitovbreak it upinto its finest particlesand at the same time clear outall the pipes preparatory to a powder discharge.
