l I l9 r 0% a ,I 5 ri "I ,2? WITNESSES INVENTOR is? ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES GEORGE G. ALDEN AND STEPHEN M. IRVIN, OF MOULTON, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WASH AND FEEQD BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,44$, dated May 16, 1876; application filed m April 8, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, GEORGE G. ALDEN and STEPHEN M. IRVIN, of Moulton, in the county of Appanoose and State of Iowa, have invented-a new and valuable Improvement in Wash and Feed Boilers and we do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, .reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and tothe letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of front view of our wash and feed boiler;
. and Fig. 2 is avertical section through the dotted line yy. i v This invention has relation to wash-boilers and boilers for heating feed; and the nature of our invention consists in a swinging barrel or tank, inside of which is a furnace inclosed in a casing provided with a'smoke-pipe, as will be'hereinafter explained.
The capital letter A designates a barrel or tank, which is suspended from two standards,
B B, by means of brackets a a, which allow,
the barrel to be tilted for emptying it of its contents, and also allow itto be removed from the standards B.
G designates a casing of metal, which rises from the bottom of the barrel a short distance and is provided with an escape pipe, 0,
which extends out through the top of the barrel, as shown in Fig. 2.
The casing 0 should be secured water-tight to the bottom of the barrel A, and inside of this casing is'a cylindrical grated fire-pot, J, at the bottom of which is a grate, K, and an ash-receptacle, L. Surrounding the base of the fire-pot is "a flange, e, from which extend two handles. When the fire-pot is inside of the casing it is held by means of buttons h,
which are turned under the flange 6.
It will be seen from the above description that the furnace or fire-pot is removable from the casing O, for supplying it with fuel and cleaning it out; also, that the contents of the barrel can be readily emptied by tilting it.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The barrel A swinging in the frame B, in combination with the removable fire-pot J, casing O,-and outlet-pipe O, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that we claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the "presence of two witnesses.
