This invention relates to improvements in sub-sinks, sub-sink strainers and valves.
An object of this invention is to provide a sink having a sub-sink provided with a combined refuse container and valve, the said refuse container and valve having two normal positions.
Another object of this invention is to pro vide a sub-sink adapted to receive a pair of strainers and means associated between the said strainers for maintaining them in spaced relation, the said means also adapted to prevent the passage of water from the sub-sink when in oneposition and to permit water to pass from the sub-sink when in another position.
Another object of this invention is to provide a sink having a sub-sink provided with a combined perforated refuse container and valve, a supplementary strainer and means associated with the supplementary strainer for maintaining the valve in open position so long as the refuse container is in one position and permits the valve to close when the refuse container is in another position.
Other objects lie in the novel construction and combination of partsas will be apparent throughout the further description of the invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein;

In the drawing 11 is a drain ofa sink represented in its entirety by 12. Within the opening 13 of the drain 11 is disposed a sub-sink comprising a cylindrical body 14,
the upper edges of which are flared out and tapered as shown at 15 for snugly engaging corresponding tapered surfaces 16 adjacent the openings 13 in the drain 11.
The body 14 is provided with a threaded portion 17 adjacent to the flared portion 15 for cooperating with a clamping nut 18 for connecting the body 14 to the drain 11. Any suitable washer or packing 19 may be employed for forming a water tight joint be- 5 tween the drain 11 and body 14.

The body 14 is formed to provide a reduced portion 21 and a further reduced threaded nipple 22, the purpose of which will hereinafter be described.
Within the body 14 is disposed a perforat- -ed refuse container 23 provided with a handle valve 29 is connected to the reduced portion 26 by the threaded means, the refuse container 23, handle 24 and valve 29 are maintained in rigid fixed relation.
The valve 29 is adapted to rest upon the annular shoulders 32 formed at the upper end of the reduced portion 21 when in closed position. At the top of the nipple 22 is formed an inwardly extending annular shoulder 33 adapted to support a'su'pplementary strainer 34 which is provided with an upwardly extending projection 35, the purpose of which will hereinafter be described.
The valve 29 is provided with a pair of downwardly extending spaced projections or legs 36 for cooperating with the projection 35 carried by the strainer 34 in such a manner that when the valve 29 is in one position, the legs 36 will receive the projection 35 and permit the valve to close as shown by the drawing. When it is desired to open the valve,the combined refuse container 23 and valve 29 may be lifted by the handle 24 and turned substantially 90 so that the ends of the legs 36 will rest upon the projection 35 and thereby maintain the valve 29 in open posit-ion.
The threaded nipple 22 may be connected to a pipe or trap 37 by any suitable means such as shown at 38.
It can be seen from the above that the refuse container 23 may remain within the subsink when the valve 29 is in either open Q1 closed position and that the necessity of removing the refuse container 23 in order to insert a stopper or the like in the sub-sink for retaining the water in the sink, is eliminated. The combined container 23 and valve 29 may be readily removed for emptying or cleaning and likewise the supplementary strainer 34.
An important advantage of the present invention is the simple and compact construction which provides all the desirable features required in connection with a sub-sink. Another important advantage of the present invention is the combined refuse container and valve which is so constructed as to have two normal positions and means associated therewith for selectively maintaining them in either position.
While I have illustrated and described one embodiment of this invention, it Will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes, modifications, substitutions, additions and omissions may be made in the structure Without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination in a sub-sink having a drain outlet of a cup-shaped strainer fitting in said outlet, a valve for opening and closing said outlet and forming a support for said strainer, a valve actuating handle formed so as to clamp said strainer to said valve, a supplemental strainer beneath said valve, and cooperating means on said valve and supplemental strainer for maintaining the valve in open position without removing said cupshaped strainer from said outlet.
2. The combination in a sub-sink having a drain outlet of a perforated container fitting in said outlet, a valve for opening and closing said outlet and supporting said container, a supplemental stralner beneath said valve, means for actuating said valve, said means also clamping the container to said valve and cooperating means associated with said supplemental strainer and said valve for maintaining said valve in an open position Without removing said perforated container from the outlet.
3. The combination With a sink having a drain outlet of a strainer fitting in said outlet, a valve for opening and closing said outlet and forming a support for said strainer, a handle for operating said valve and for clamping said strainer thereto,and means for holding said valve in open position without removing said strainer from said outlet.
